So on the weekend i purchased a 1985 bmw 323 for $400 and it was great fun until the gear box explodedddd!!!
So now im chasing a good paddock basher rear wheel drive car that lasts longer then an hour and i thought i would ask the seabreezers as most of you are from a generation where having fun in a car wasnt so frowned upon.
Any recommendations would be great!!
Overplayed but know quantity and cheap; falcon or commodore. Wildcard; old volvo.
Weld the diff up, check the coolant and oil, thrash till death ---> dump, fun profit :D
old datsuns were always a good choice back in the day. 120Y, 180B, 200B were cheap, highly reliable and difficult to kill, but i think they are collectable now. chrysler sigmas were good to throw around too
your local auctions can be your friend,
I was at Manheim's auctions a couple of weeks ago [Perth] and they were auctioning a heap of vehicles for the W.A. Police and [I think] the Sheriff's office.
These were vehicles seized from, or surrendered by the owners as proceeds of crime, hooning, unpaid fines etc.
Very sweet looking 1970's Mercedes in immaculate condition went for $100, and many other vehicles for similarly ridiculous prices.

From the ages of 6 to 14 my mum used to take my brothers and I, and half the neighbourhood kids, to the beach every weekend and school holiday in a Datsun 200B. With all our boards and snorkelling gear too. Freakin awesome memories of that workhorse (mum and the car I guess...) neither of them ever did a turn wrong in my books.
You guys talk about cars that are hard to find now. Cars from the mid nineties are the go like Falcons and Commodores. Dirt cheap and easy to find.
I agree with the post above wholeheartedly. These guys are looking back on old fond memories of cars that went well but realistically, they're either gone or collector cars now. I agree with the falcons. A good mate picked up an xf wagon for cheap but even they are rare. Ef falcon would be my flogger. Or commodore. Has rear wheel drive and grunt. Pretty sturdy if you hit a tree too. Should burn reasonably well too when you're finished.

Datto 1200 we had one for ages and it never gave up but as the doc says the corrolla is a good one as well.
When my grandmother had to give up driving, we got her Toyota Crown for our paddock bomb...it looked a bit like this when we got it.
By the time we sold it 3 years later (for $20...with half a tank of fuel!) it had no doors or windscreen, no bonnet or boot, no back seat & we had cut the back half of the roof and bolted handles to the remaining front half so that we could hang on whilst spotlighting.

The 240z is even better but are very rare and would cost a fortune.

That age Falcon will catch fire all by itself anyway, with the tranny fluid overflow out the dippy when pushed hard. I know from experience.... 
In Vic you can now be charged with driving offences on private property. Might want to check if NSW is the same.

How on earth does that work? If you are driving/riding on private property that is fenced, how do the police or whoever have the right to enter the property to issue the tickets/charges? Are there no property rights anymore?

Always has been the case in WA if the public has access to that private land.
Eg: B&S ball on farm, public has access at that time so you can be done for drink driving or circlework etc.
And any land under control of CALM/DEC/DPaW or whatever they will call themselves next week - anything that would be an offence on a road, is an offence on their land. Nobody will give u a seatbelt ticket in the forest lol, but cut up and hurt somebody and you're stuffed.
