So I like a fair bit of music spanning lots of styles.. Who doesn't? (if you don't you are selling yaself short BIG TIME imo)

Anyway, what is a track from a genre you typically don't like (in my case hip/hop top 40) that rocks your boat?

Here is mine, I know it's not exactly true Hip Hop and is tres popular, but gotta hand it to the skinny honky - it's a massiv song and great lyrics too (his mom's sketty..).

Classic toon before running out for a grand final or similar I rekon.

Great topic!

I HATE R&B, as in the modern R&B. But man oh man I LOVE The Weeknd. Although strictly it's not typical R&B, for one the guy expresses some massive crises of confidence.

By far my favourite album(s) of the year. Totally unexpected. I'm listening to it right now.

So here you go, nobody knew who he was for a while, similar to Burial. There are three albums coming out this year. Two so far. All completely free.

Download both albums here. One more to come this year. FREE:

Favourite lyric from one of the songs:
I got a brand new girl call her rudolf
She'll probably OD, before I show her to momma
All these girls tryin' to tell me she got no love
But all these girls never ever got her blowjob

To reiterate this is so not my usual style of music. So not.

That's the ticket fellas!

I've never really been a fan of countryfried music but heard this band about 7 yrs ago and they floored me.

This actually a cover (Townes Van Zant?) and has been featured on Breakking Bad too! Tow BIG ticks!

Should pull my finger out and get my ears around TVZ too.

About 1 in five listens this album is freakin' awesome. You really, really have to be in the right state of mind else it just sounds like noise. Really. But when it's good... oh man.

I'll have some of what he's having..

This one is a bit hard to classify... hip hop? Roots? RnB? Not my usual cuppa tea but a classic track with some dirty lyrics if you listen hard...

I nearly turned that off at the start, gave it a few more beats and it got way better, thanks for that, seems some maturity arrived to this sad genre

Right orn kiteboy dave. Always luvved that track - filthy in every way.

Again RnB/Hip Hop is not my sorta stuff normally but i was lucky enough to twiddle some knobs for these guys recently (doing an acoustic version) and they are awesome people with oodles of talent to spare. Funky track. killer vocalist.

They know there stuff and have influences stretching right back accross many genres (always good) and I believe they are releasing an acoustic version soon - will be even better than this above IMO.

Touring with the Herd at the mo if you get a chance to see them.

By the way ALL of the above are highly acclaimed, almost winning (famously) the Mercury Music prize, or Electronic Album of the Year etc. etc.

Tah BI.

She's a cute (and interesting) little pixy awright.

When she is a tad older, and starts singing about abusing codeine and other such meloncholy stuff, she will be complete and ready to join the dark side (of the mandolin world)

Nah - the acoustic meloncholy is strong in her and she's pretty much there awready.

Haven't heard LM for a bit - cheers for the refresher.

This one seems to be busting the genres. It has had over 27 million views on the tube.

Bit more oomph in the sound and lyrics with this post.

Righto..good toons left right and centre but just to remind this thread is about posting toons that are from genres you normally wouldn't touch with a stick.

Speaking for myself I can't stand metal and would rather skol my own cold vomit.

However this little ditty from 1991 gets me goin..

(language warning!! )
