Can anybody tell me what type of glues are used to glue the seams on the canopy and struts of a kite or wing?

I just finished repairing a badly damaged wingding using the tape-both-sides-and-oversew method. It worked fine.

Almost all of the seams in the Dacron part of the wing are glued with some fairly robust glue, with some strips of glue on the handle attachment points. The canopy seams are glued with a much thinner glue and it looks to be applied very neatly and sparingly.

The internet has a heap of information about using adhesive Dacron tape, but nothing about the glue applied to the seams and structural areas.

I have used basting tape in the past when doing repairs. I gave up because it is not strong and it's really only meant for temporary use when lining things up.

It's called seam tape, comes in a roll and has no cloth reinforcing. It is applied to one edge, the backing paper is removed and the top panel is fitted. Then you just run a stitch over the join.

Thanks for that. I saw the references to "double sided tape" and thought it was the same as the foam mounting tapes. I'll grab a roll and try it out.

Apart from making the seam stronger, it would solve the problem of stopping one side of the seam slipping when sewing a middle section of seam.
