OK I am in my mid 30's now with a family. We do OK, own a house, good jobs, good cars etc.

I have tried to live my life with consideration for others. It makes me feel good to do good or something random for someone.

I don't like taking favours from people and I try to be self sufficient in all that I do.


My point is and that grates on me is that overtime I see so many people that are rude arrogant turkeys continually come up and do extremely well.

They are always nice to those that they need to or that can help them to get ahead be but plain out rude wan%^$# to people they don't see can help them.

Another example is the guy in the new Merc that pulls out into traffic without acknowledging people or using blinkers. Even tooting your horn does not elicit a response. The guy simply does not care about you or what you think. Is this a reflection of his entire approach to life? Do what you need to do and screw others??

The question is: To become wealthy and progress in life do I need to forget ethics, manners and consideration for others and become self consumed and only ever focussed on my self??

To clarify the above firstly, no I do not own my house outright but I live near the beach on the Gold Coast and most people now can not afford to do this. Unfortunately the bank still owns more than I do.

I guess I should qualify by adding the term intelligence to the mix.

There are two kinds of arrogant: One in that someone has never learnt or lacks the brain power to understand that their actions may affect others. The typical bogan so to speak.

OR

The intelligent person from a good educated background that fully understands that what he does will impact other people but in an unclouded view to his own ascent believes that he is far more important.

You tell me which one is worse?

Not spending money is the key to wealth.

I know a few rich people who are tighter than a nun's nasty. Not hard to be richer than everyone else when you won't buy a round, will reuse 1 teabag for a week or do the x-mas shopping at the $2 shop.

Makes me laugh to see that people with much less money who don't spend all day bean counting twice as happy.

Right on CMC, I work for a strange combination of the uber rich and the poverty stricken. I constantly get arguments about quotes /bills from the Toorak dwellers but the folks with zilch will pay in 10 cent pieces if they have to. One guy who owed me 50 bucks rode his bike from St. Kilda to my place (10 K) to pay me.

Not paying tax is the key to wealth in this country.

Family trusts, negative gearing, undeclared income, leasing through shelf companies etc is the way to go.

So I suppose you've got to be pretty arrogant to rort the system and then want to have a say in how it is run.

Yes - arrogance comes with the territory for most cashed up folks. The feeling of financial superiority seems to ease the pain of having less folks that like/love them for anything other than their moula.

I used to work for Porsche and Bentley. Generally people with money are ok but some are just arrogant pricks

So you will do a random act of kindness and feel great about it ...BUT!
Not let someone do it for you! {and let them get the same buzz}

and as for your question...I have one of those people in my family.
and thats how they made their money:- "with no consideration to others"
They are family so I do love them.....But!!!!!!!!! I don't like them and have very little to do with them.

The one thing I did find when working in rich areas was.

People that were wanner-bee "richie riches" were arrogant and just plain ugly
and People that were born into money were snootie but not arrogant or nasty or ugly in dealing with the general public.

I do believe in England there is far more class distinction there and more arrogant wanner-bees that try to crawl up out of their class to the next level.

Leading a happy, ethical life and being financially well off are 2 mutually exclusive states. For some people money only buys them a higher class of misery, yet it's entirely possible to be fully happy whilst being broke. I believe that learning to be the latter is the secret to true contentment.

I thought this same thing about seven or eight years ago .. and did sell it ,the same house is now a couple of hundred k dearer.

If our population increases as some polys want it to , house prices may keep going wfk?
