Like I've said before, Apple is an **** ******* and anybody who **** an ***** deserves ***** ******* to them.

I would elaborate but since this forum stopped allowing opinions, I can't find the adequate vocabulary or images to eloquently describe the **** without it being censored (post deleted).

No SandS an Apple is not a Lemon, it's a pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae), and is a perennial.
A lemon is both a small evergreen tree (Citrus × limon, often given as C. limon) native to Asia and the tree's oval yellow fruit. The fruit is used for culinary and nonculinary purposes throughout the world – primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, mainly in cooking and baking.

Don't forget to install your propaganda & manipulation software (iTunes), happy crash free computing.

No more (or less) than any other computer.

Flawless. Impressive. Battery life is not so good if you make a lot of calls.

I did buy a $4 synch cable from ebay and that caused all sorts of problems synching. All the problems stopped once I used the genuine cable. The cheapies are fine for charging.

Apples computers and other shiny things they make are really nice. I like them all and buy them when they come out. They are designed in California too. It says so on the back.

I currently have a Macbook Pro and its pretty sweet. I like the way you can scroll down a page with two fingers. Makes using a normal scroll pad seem really old.

I'm looking forwared to the Macbook Wheel. It looks really cool.

With any brand of computer you occasionally get ones that have issues, but in my experience apple products have far less issues than the competition...

It seems that most people just shrug their shoulders when something happens on their PC, but if it were to happen to a mac they start going postal.

Case in point, yesterday I was helping a co-worker with a file, and I asked her to take a screengrab. She tried, failed, and said that she can take a screenshot after the computer has rebooted but then it doesn't work after a couple of hours. It's just something you accept with PCs. Same with reinstalling the operating system -- I've used macs since 1986, and never once had to reinstall the operating system. It's just not something that you have to do. I know many people who say that they reinstall windows every year to keep things running smoothly.

Personally I find Windows frustrating, inconsistent, slow, buggy, unintuitive, and it wastes my time. I made it a condition of employment when I went for my current job that I use a mac (and it's the only mac in the building!). I'm probably around 30-40% more productive on a mac than a PC, because stuff just works and you don't have to deal with times when stuff doesn't work.

As for mobiles, the iPhone is allright, but like anything all products have their strengths and weaknesses. I've found that for most people the iPhone makes stuff easy to do that you'd have to be a super nerd to figure out on other phones, but signal strength and voice quality aren't quite as good as other phones. The reliability and ease of use is better than most, however.

Swings and roundabouts, if you're not happy with something then take it back and get a different one... No-one will force you to use something you hate

I knew you'd get into this thread Nebs

Just out of curiosity what was the last version of Windows you used? Win98?
Never had those sort of problems since win2000.

Only time we ever have to re-install is when we are upgrading applications, and then its only because we build up one PC to test, take an image and then roll that image out onto all the others, quicker and easier.

Home users are a different story as they tend to install all sorts of crap thats available (only to windows users) on the net.

Happy to admit I have several mac products, mac mini, iphone etc. and they are nice boxes but no better than my windows boxes and my new win phone 7 unit seems just as good as my iphone.

Personally I find mac total lack of understanding of a filing system and their desire to install everything onto the desktop very frustrating, but then I guess it depends on which machines you started on as to which you prefer.

As you say, horses for courses they all have their good and bad

Windows Vista, forced to use it a couple of times a week to see how broken websites are on IE

Yes it's still slow, inconsistent and frustrating for me...

I have a few apple devices and I think they are good. I'd suggest if making a significant purchase get AppleCare - it's worth it. As anything with computers you can have problems. I've had faulty ram a hard drive die and some dead pixels. All were fixed quickly without fuss. The OS is excellent - much better than M$ windows. The only software I don't like is iTunes.

Did you get it from the Apple Shop? I'll be in a suburb with an Apple shop next week and will drop in to check one out.

I used Macs right from the very beginning and owned several. One of the most popular pieces of software was ConflictCatcher. We had to spend hours dragging programs around so that the load sequence would not result in errors. If the machine locked up then you had to pull out the power cord. There were numerous magic key sequences you had to hold down during boot to do various things.

During use you had to know Apple-key sequences to get access to properties and options and stuff. With Windows it has always been right-menu, pick the option.

Apple computers are beautifully made and beautifully designed products. There are many machines in the PC world that can make similar claims. Only recently have Macs become cheap enough to be viable for most people. They still suffer from the problem that many web sites and many programs don't run on them.

They do suffer from exactly the same problems as any other computer (except viruses ... so far). You get a DLL out of whack or a version clash and you have to download a new version same as any other.

When I switched to PCs I love the fact that I can buy hardware and software for next to nothing at the supermarket or from eBay. Research it. Buy it. Pop it in. Away you go. Fantastic.

I have 6 and 10 year old PCs that sit and run just fine. I don't have to reload the operating system at all. I do have to provide support for my neighbour's PC with monotonous regularity. God knows what silly things he does to it. I have a friend's G4 that has got some version clashes and it took about as long to sort that out as any other machine.

They're just computers folks. They run software. If they run what you want then they're good. If they don't then they're boat anchors no matter how glossy the marketing.

(PS I love iTunes. I would like a little more control of the searching and information update capabilities.)

Nebs, Vista is a virus. A bit like windows ME or win 98. All shockingly unstable and painfully inefficient. I got a new laptop with vista on it a few years ago for work. I immediately installed all of the updates etc. I lasted about 2 hours before giving up on it and nuking it after it crashed more times than my current PC has in 6 years (and that was due to a dead PSU). It took about 15 minutes to hunt down XP drivers for the hardware (which was not XP-compatible according to asus) and kick off an XP install. Worked perfectly after that (until it was stolen).

I still use XP and various flavours of linux for my work. Still running the same XP install after 4 years on a 6+ year old PC. No problems. A bit slow with some of the newer media formats but hey its dinosour hardware. NT, 2000, and XP are all very stable. Any other windows OS (reluctant to "upgrade" to win7 just yet) is a disaster.

As for apple hardware... after my last job designing a iphone docking station using the digital audio interface on the bottom, dont get me started

I've never understood the anti-Vista thing. I have it on a couple of machines and they work just fine. I upgraded one to Windows 7 and there was no driver for my web cam so I reverted to Vista.

I can plug my cameras and GPSs in. Run all sorts of software. Listen to music. Download demos of any database you care to name.

It might not be technically perfect but in use it does everything I could reasonably want to do.

I think the Mac thing and the Vista thing and the Linux thing is all about fashion and marketing (not so much for Linux as a commercial Unix alternative.) All this chest beating about stuff that really has no bearing on anything.

Nah its not fashion and marketing- or chest beating. Apple has always produced relatively stable and reliable products, and they get that by controlling the hardware. Vista was released in a very unstable state that made it virtually unusable on a lot of machines which shipped with it installed. The subsequent upgrades made it a lot more stable but the damage was done. It was also frustrating that a lot of software that worked on other versions of windows no longer worked on Vista. Sure your basic office apps still worked but if you had to do any real work you were stuffed. This caused massive frustration and is one of the many reasons why many businesses stuck with XP.

Linux is more of a nuts and bolts OS that has an improving desktop, but its main strength is as a reliable, high performance, highly configurable system that can do a lot of gruntwork.

If you need a fancy typewriter that "does internet" then PC or mac work fine. If you are doing publishing/editing video etc, then the mac software is very polished for this which is why its the "industry standard". The PC platform can be purchased in formats that can whoop the mac for performance, and if thats what you need then you can get more bang for buck on a PC platform (running windoze or linux).
