Geesh - those rigs are tiny and bending in all the wrong ways (well compared to most other forms of sailing) though the sails look like they are cut to set that way - check it out at

Except for the fact that the guys in these pics are using skis instead of wheels, it's already taken off in WA, and has been going for years.

Check the forums at the bottom of the list - Landsailing.

yeah, I know that, regards the ice .... sheesh

I was just pointing out that a similar sport already exists, and has a well structured club based system (my old man used to race at Safety Bay).

Had a go once, it scares the crap out of you. You are moving bloody fast and if you flip it over (which is quite easy) you scrape along abrasive gypsum stuff.
Not quite as forgiving as water

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

Now that would be Ironic

dillions face is ironic

Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is a gap or incongruity between what a speaker or a writer says and what is generally understood (either at the time, or in the later context of history). Irony may also arise from a discordance between acts and results, especially if it is striking, and seen by an outside audience. Irony is understood as an aesthetic evaluation by an audience, which relies on a sharp discordance between the real and the ideal, and which is variously applied to texts, speech, events, acts, and even fashion. All the different senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity, or a gap between an understanding of reality, or expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.

Irony threatens authoritative models of discourse by "removing the semantic security of ‘one signifier : one signified’";[1][2] irony has some of its foundation in the onlooker’s perception of paradox which arises from insoluble problems.

The connection between irony and humour is somewhat revealed when an expected result of an action does not occur but is instead a surprise that startles us into laughter. However, not all irony is humorous: “grim irony” and “stark irony” are familiar.

Why would I risk give up my title of world champion fisherman out of us two? Just like when I played my brother an avid chessman, in a game of chess 7 years ago, and beat him, and he's begged me ever since to regain the world title, and I have steadfastly refused a rematch, I am world champion chess player forever, out of us two!! I like being world champion fisherman out of hardie and reli, got a nice ring to it don't you think "Hardie World Champion Fisherman"

No it doesnt.
I play chess too.
Perhaps we can fish again, play chess gaze for hours into each others eyes.
Then i can show you what speed is all about on the estuary in the arvo.
i'm just waiting for an invite.
Next week would be stupendous.

No idea. But i know that the ice speed record is much faster than the land speed record so i would asume they would be going bloody quick. Much faster than us anyway.

On land we can go 4 to 5 times the speed of the wind, on ice I think they go over 6 times the speed of the wind, but don't quote me on that. The speed record on land is 187.7kph.

Someone claims to have gone 230kph on ice back in 1938 but many people today doubt this could have happened.

Before motorized speed records they were the fastest way to travel on the surface of the earth. I know some guys who use small sleds with blades, stand on them and sail with 3.7's or smaller. They hold the speed records which are slightly less than 60 m.p.h.
