If you review the vid you will see that the yacht was negotiating a navigation channel, the green starboard hand channel marker clearly visible.

If you had any concept of boats/yachts you would know that the vessel would displace no more than 6 tom (sorry, tonnes) and you would have to ask the question:-

"What are these surfers thinking?"........This stupid boat owner is is going to give us right of way even though we have no right to be surfing right here in the navigation channel............because we are only paddling and he has got his motor running.

Get real Tux and pierrec45. The guy had every right to be where he was and the surfers none.

He is exiting a port and encounters an extreme life threatening situation and finds it complicated by a bunch of thrill seeking surfers.

Go surf the bow wave of a 50,000 tonne bulk carrier why don't you??

So, is this an example of snaking by the yacht or does the yacht have right of way on the wave, seeing the yacht is onthe wave first. It does seem a little drastic to have to get a yacht out to catch a wave instead of a Stand-up. makes you wonder about what sort of quiver the yacht owner has though!

I did notice that the yacht appeared to be outside of the channel but keep in mind that in Australia and in the US we adhere to the IALA Buoyage System under which positioning of channel markers is based on the direction of the incoming tide not the direction of entry to a port.

I am not familiar with this location but the video is obviously taken from land and the green buoy is quite close to the land.

This seems to indicate that this particular channel has the incoming tide flowing seawards. Unusual but not uncommon.

There are several entries to Waikiki Harbour where this video was taken so having a channel with apparent reversed marking is to be expected.

This is confirmed by the photo in the later post with the trimaran heading out and the motor boat heading in, both seemingly on the wrong side of the red marker.

In the case of a "Marine Incident", pleading ignorance of the rules will land you in gaol. Pardon the pun. Cheers Cisco.

I think you will find that point panic is the only entrance to that Harbour marina.
