The Earth is flat, vaccines are killing us, the World Trade Center collapse was a controlled demolition, planes are spraying poison to control the weather, and actors faked the Sandy Hook massacre..
All these claims are bunk: falsehoods, mistakes, and in some cases, outright lies. But many people passionately believe one or more of these conspiracy theories. They consume countless books and videos, join like-minded online communities, try to convert those around them, and even, on occasion, alienate their own friends and family. Why is this, and how can you help people, especially those closest to you, break free from the downward spiral of conspiracy thinking?

Or do some highbrow reading in The Economist:

Hopefully Dr Tonia bulltidude buys me the book for Christmas!
However last time she saw me she didn't have much to say except I'm extremely sorry for what's happened to you following our last conversation where I recommended you get vaccinated for a virus that mutated into something no more serious than a common flu. I love being tarnished with the same brush as flat earthers all whilst being 32 years old and unable to function most days at risk of perishing

Hmm, have a look at what's happening in China, do you really think a major world economy with an already authoritarian system, is locking up its vital work force for fun ? I tested positive two weeks ago but mearly had itchy eyes & sneezing for about 12 hrs. I've had 3 doses of the vax with nil side effects I would love to hear a theory of why China is stressing its economy so deeply if COVID is no more than a cold ?

How do you know what's happening in China ? Are you getting your info from friends, family or trusted sources in China ? Or are you getting it from the idiot box? The idiot box which is funded by whom? I have imported products from China to sell for some time and my sources tell me it's bad but not as bad as western media portrays.

Glad you answered this one, I couldn't have done it without swearing angrily. Son of mate of mate aged 15 now wears a heart monitor from myocarditis, 15 and he was in great health.

"While we often associate cardiovascular conditions with elderly populations, myocarditis can affect anyone, including young adults, children and infants. In fact, it most often affects otherwise healthy, young, athletic types with the high-risk population being those of ages from puberty through their early 30's, affecting males twice as often as females. Myocarditis is the 3rd leading cause of Sudden Death in children and young adults."

Hilly - Klaus Schwab head of the World Economic Forum recently mentioned that China is the role model for countries around the world.

China is a technocracy at least in the cities.

Do you really want your kids living in such an Orwellian society.?

Again, Klaus mentioned China it is the MODEL for countries around the world.

Not a CT but a fact.

Didn't you end up with a diagnosis of a pain relating to something different and not myocarditis or pericarditis? Very different to what OK has suffered.

If I recall correctly, you volunteered for an (obviously untested) vaccination trial, had a symptom you thought might be heart related, and then it turns out to be something else causing your symptoms. Are these symptoms continuous/onging?

I don't think anyone is arguing that there are no ill effects from the vaccinations for some people.

Anyone here willing to air their view whether the virus was a lab leak or came from a bat at the Wuhan market? Are you a tin foil hat wearing CTist or a sensible rational person who gets all their information from MSM?

If I had to put $10 down, I'd bet on a lab leak.

There was information "in the MSM" at some point that 'intelligence services' noted a lack of cars parked around the lab and much less mobile phone activity in the area around the time in question. I.e. they think it suggested a stuff up at a lab and people got out of there quickly.

Sounds believable to me. After the theory that aliens landed and left the virus with the NWO to distribute as they would to depopulate the planet. But my second choice goes to a lab leak.

I don't wear a tinfoil hat. I think they put something in aluminium foil now that makes it easier to retransmit brain waves....

You do realise that if you had suggested in the past (or present for that matter) that the virus came from a lab leak you were called a conspiracy theorist right?

Are you happy to be labelled as such?

I don't care. You could label me a conspiracy theorist if you want, I just wouldn't agree and would wonder what the conspiracy is meant to be.

In this case, I expect it is human error. Someone stuffed up. Its far more common that people make mistakes than do things for an evil intent.

We are most likely never going to know, so i consider this way down on the list of important stuff. I even thought Slo Mo was an idiot for telling the Chinese he wanted an investigation into where it came from. What does that resolve? If it was the Chinese intent to release it they wouldn't care. If they made a mistake its best to let them save a bit of face and ignore it and get on with solving the problem and hoping that they learned a lesson about handling dangerous things.

Bat virus? Released from a lab by mistake? Started from antivaxxers whose unvaxed kids in Nimbin created a super-cold? It just doesn't matter. It's here.

From my perspective Conspiracy Theorists seem to fall for everything and usually without any decent analysis of the information. They just beLIEve.

On the other hand if someone came up to me and said 'I think Covid is an effort to depopulate the world, and gave me credible information that made some sense, I would probably listen to them. So far I have had maybe 3 or 4 tell me its a conspiracy by 'someone' and they are not sure why, and no one has told me a logical well thought out reason.

That's fair enough, there are lots of crazy people out there believing crazy things. We were led to believe that if we took the Covid vaccine we would not spread Covid to Grandma. That was a belief that proved to be a lie. Are you annoyed at the experts that said this?

When taking a vaccine, don't you want to know exactly what it can and can't do before you inject it in your body? I don't seem to remember too many Drs telling people before they got injected, "There are a few thousand potential adverse reactions related to this vaccine. Check page 30 to 38 of this Pfizer document. If you think the benefits outweighs the risks, great, we will go ahead and get you vaxxed."

Said it was a lab leak way back in the beginning, when I Google Maps'd the location of the wet lab and the WIV... Nothing I saw in the interim had enough evidence behind it to really sway my suspicion. Occam's Razor and all that.

It does. Because either lab leak or natural infection, if we can identify and prevent the next one at the source... well the conclusion should be obvious.

Yes, and it's here in circulation with the rest of the coronavirus that cohabit with humans, have for millennia and will continue so. NOW the preventative measures are as irrelevant as they would be applied to flu.

You don't think it matters that a virus that has killed millions, wrecked livelihoods, closed schools, created mental health issues and injured millions with subsequent vaccine injuries that may have started because it was accidentally released from a lab?

Yeah ok.

It seems everyone puzzling over lab leak bat host doesn't realise I can buy a CRISPR machine for a couple of grand, I can take a 30,000 nucleotide long bat virus ribo nucleic acid and splice in 6,000 nucleotides of HIV glycoprotein and voila I've created a bat virus that will cleave to human ACE2 receptors.
If you still believe the guys that made billions selling the vaccine would hesitate to release the virus then might I suggest unicorn insurance for the fantasy you're living in.
