As always there is 2 sides to a coin , I have seen an extended version ,this happened years ago about the start of the wolfpak era,the short boarder was surfing inside the bodyboarding competitons area, he was asked to repeatatly leave the area he refused and kept surfing Kainoa McGee paddled out and made him leave the area I'm not condoning what happened but he was asked numerous times

is access to the area only permitted for the competitors surfing?
or is it just a given that they take control of the area when they want to?

The Hawaiian locals are some of the nicest people on the planet. Time in Hawaii is awesome.
The donkey with the broken face was Californian, not french. Footage is about 10 years old. The yank got asked to leave the comp area by a local, yank responded by taking a swing. Not that I condone what happened on the beach, but judging by the two guys similtaneous reactions after starting to walk away, I'm guessing the yank couldn't swallow his pride and keep his mouth shut. It's not hard to show a bit of respect in someone elses home, it's ****ing stupid to show outward disrespect.
