You guys don't know what you are talking about, there is lots of surf in Airlie......... during a category 5 cyclone. Best spots are the center of town and around the Cannonvale shopping center.
Yeah, was going to say the same thing. Had a ball there back in, hell I forget the year, some time in the late 90s, when some cyclone crossed the coast to the north. There was a great peak between the two beaches (ah yes, there were 2 beaches back then, no lagoon), and surfboards appeared from everywhere.
And the backpackers used to have sex on the tramps of my mates hire catamarans - used to pick up all the coins that'd fall out of their pockets every morning.
