Hi Adolf,
Seeing Ive moved away from smelly old melbourne to the coast I dont see any reason why I should keep the best fishing spot in the whole city a secret any more. (and trust me its superb)
This place is only about 5km up the road from the north road ramp where you went out.
the good fishing starts at only 200m out from the beach and you can fish it up to 900m out.
I have personally witnessed a 17 kilo snapper being caught at this spot IN WINTER!! which is practically unheard of.
My mate has caugh a flat head as long as your arm here. and in the same session we landed over 30 flathead (not all keepers) but it was insane action for the afternoon.
I have seen gummies caught here, rods pulled over the gunwales, and calamari well over 1 kg.
its just out from the man made beach at port melbourne.
PRINCES PIER.
no longer accessable by land, but ideal for the kayak crew etc as its provides shelter on both sides and under the stanchions (where there are also masses shoals of bream)
the main melbourne shipping channel has a branch that leads straight to this old pier. so bear in mind that the water off the end is around 30 metres deep.
i dont know why, but in a northerly breeze the flathead there go fricken mental. each day we bagged out our limits was when the wind was from the north!!??!
seeing this saturday and sunday are going to be sunny and northerlies blowing you may wanna give it a crack?
