Hi everyone,

Even though I am applying tons of sun screen (Tribal Islands is called and people think it's one of the best out there) after a day in the sun, my face still burns.

I was thinking to get some sort of "burglar mask" that leaves outside just your eyes, and cover those with sunnies. Is that a good idea? And knows where to find one?
I found this on ebay, but it's for ski (therefore, very thick and warm).

This is 8hr waterproof clear zinc. Never tried it but saffers have strong sun and love outdoors too.

Stay out of the Sun before 16hrs. I do and I don't even use sunscreen. Once your skin's used to it you can get out earlier.
Humans are the most adaptable animals.

Change brands of sunscreen.
I used to be able to use anything, but nowadays if I don'tuse the sensitive baby types, I go red very quickly. Might work for you.....

I use zinc and it helps for the sunburns but it makes my skin crazy dry afterwards. I suppose thats better than getting burned

Don't know why you got a red arrow for that? Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun. In NSW, apart from Gerroa, the seabreeze is usually best between 1500 and 1800. It's not until then that the swimmers are blown off the beach and you can get a car park. The southerlies can come in any time but it's usually cloudy.

A bit of sunscreen shouldn't go astray though.

Has anyone found a successful pair of sunglasses to wear while windsurfing? I bought a pair of blue(something) glasses a while back, but found the amount of spray made them annoying to wear. Plus, they were too small for my fat head.

Maybe my sailing is better now, and there would be less spray, but I suspect I will still find it annoying, but probably better than long term damage to my eyes.

Over here in Perth seems to be the only time I get to sail for a decent amount of time, so maybe I should wear them.

I use vecta polaroid safety glasses from Unanderra working gear. The trick is to keep sunscreen off them, so don't smother your eyebrows. They should be under the lid of the Gath hat anyway.
The other thing to get right is the detergent. An optometrist I met in Fiji told me about dishwashing liquid. You wash in detergent under the tap, and then give them a really good rinse. Then a real good polish with a cotton T shirt. If you leave too much detergent on the spray beads up and they're hopeless. Too little and salt and scum builds up. Just right, you can sail for hours, the spray just bounces off and you wouldn't know you had them on.

The polaroid make sailing into a setting sun really something, the chop and swell just stands out so well you can go faster and harder ( yes that's a relative measure ) than you've done all day.

I got a pair of dirty dog, but didn't arrive. They have some sort of substance on them that doesn't allow the water to stick to the lenses. I'll let you know if they do the job properly.
