HI , is it possible to do a day trip from Noosa to Double island point?
i understand it will all depend on tides , but generally speaking what is the drive time from Noosa to being on the beach at Double Island point?
thanks if you can assist.
would be late Feb if that makes any difference?
regards.

Not being smart but you might find this handy...

Google maps. Type in start location, type in finish location or click on the map near the spot your staying/want to go and all the info
will pop up, giving you time/distance/route. I use it all the time.

he's asking about beach driving, tides & conditions. Does Google maps cover that?

Hey mate,

Noosa to Tewantin where you catch the little ferry over the river- 15min.

From the ferry to the beach- 10 min.

From the first cutting to the rocks at the end of the beach DI anywhere from 30min to 90min by 4x4 depending on tides and beach conditions.

From DI end of the beach you can take the freshwater 4x4 track to the road towards rainbow beach, this track takes about 30min depending on conditions.

You can then go back onto the beach from rainbow side and drive back towards the rocks at the point, about 20 min, gotta do this bit at low tide as the beach is real narrow.

I haven't been up to DI for about a year but this is what it was like when i went last.

Hope this helps.

Yep easy day trip. No more than a couple of hours each way, allowing for a couple of stops to sightsee!

Kids loved it, we were at DI parked and the 4x4 ice cream van came by!

Cheers

Hi Patty, as the other boys have said the trip times depend on the tide and beach conditions.

I would not attempt the return trip from Rainbow to DI via the beach. Just last weekend a one year old Colorada was lost. It is possible to get past Mudlo Rocks at Rainbow at dead low tide but is very risky.
The Freshwater track is by far the best option.

If you don't intend going to Rainbow, head north from Tewantin to DI, cross over the Karlo track and you are in heaven. Try to avoid weekends if you can as the weekday crowd is considerably reduced from the weekend.

At the moment the beach is best travelled up to two hours before high tide and then two hours after high tide. There aren't too many difficult areas, you can't use First cutting anymore to go north as the beach has been closed in front of the campground. From First cutting you can only go south to the Noosa River mouth. Worth a look though.

Stay on the bitumen to the main cutting it is heavily signposted now. The access to and from. The beach can be difficult as all, vehicles now have to use this access point. make sure your tyre pressure is ok and have a look at it before you charge in.
The only other spot that can be tricky is the top of the beach at the DI crossover.

Make sure you get a beach permit at the office near the Noosa River ferry.

Have a great time.

ET.
