"The Clever Buoy is being called the "world's first shark detection buoy" by its developers. The project is a collaboration between Australian telecommunications company Optus and marine safety company Shark Attack Mitigation Systems."

If anything, it could be a useful gybe marker :)

Looks interesting.

Seems there is a fair bit of investment potential in the whole shark paranoia industry.I'm still surprised that the shark shield technology hasn't become more prevalent?

I would have thought they'd be selling like hot cakes these days.

Waiting for the day when people have their own gyrocopter that follows them around identifying threats from on high...

won't be long

Hmm, might be triggered (correctly) so often that we are never allowed in the water.

I agree - what may start as a good idea, may turn into a policed action where every time a noah swims past minding its own business - all water users have to exit the water. If this happens too much, it will be seen as too great a risk to swimmers, and they may start to close the beaches.

I know for a fact that sharks are where I windsurf/sup due to being an avid fisherman and seeing many of them over the years, and recently encountering a white whilst SUPing, although it cared less about us! I don't believe that they are there to "eat us", although in warmer waters (WA, NT, QLD & NSW) shark attacks are increasing and something needs to be implemented to provide a safer option for water users.

I really don't want a lifeguard sounding an alarm every half hour due to a shark simply cruising past - but the concept might be a good start.
