CAN I SEE A SHOW OF HANDS FOR RC PLANES & HELIS??
I NOTICED THE SIGHT'S MAIN MARKET OR TARTGET CUSTOMER ARE WATER SPORTS, I LOVE TO WINDSURF AND FISH AT THE SAME TIME, JUST KIDDING, BUT I A WINDSUFER OF 22 YEARS NOW..
AFTER A RECENT MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN WEMBLEY WA I HAVE HAD TO FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, LESS PHYSICALLY DEMANDING AND FROM WHAT I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNT MORE MENTALLY CHALLENGEING...
WHILST I AM HEAVILY MEDICATED LEARNING TO FLY OFTEN FEELS LIKE I HAVE 0.333% ACCESS TO THE ENTIRE SUM OF MY KNOWLEDEGE. HOWEVER IT KEEPS ME MOTIVATED, FOCUSED AND OUT OF THE PAD...SO IN ESSENCE I WOULD LIKE THE SITE TO EMBRACE THE SPORT OF RC PLANE FLYING, A LOT OF OUR FLYING TIME IS DICTATED BY YOUR WIND REPORTS AND I'M SURE MANY OTHERS ARE IN THE SAME BOAT. MAYBE I SHOULD BE CONTACTING THE SITE DIRECTLY I'LL START FROM HERE AND SEE HIW THINGS GO...
REGARDS,
J

Good luck with your recovery bud. Keeping yourself busy with a hobby will help for sure.

Have bought my eldest kiddy a RC helicopter (just a simple cheapy one) for xmas. Hope he eventually gets a go on it.

i will weigh in:

i fly Precision Aerobatics electric hi performance 3d planes - they are a client of mine - and i love the gear they make. By far the best technology in the carbon / balsa / lipo / brushless motor market

if you are interested this is a favourite model of mine - The ultimate AMR bipe

had a mate who built and flew R/c planes for years. they got bigger and bigger and fancier, until his doctor explained just how stressed he was when flying them. he stopped and all the problms went away.
I do remember the day we launched the glider I had spent so long building as a kid,Up , up,up down ,crash, tears , never flew again

What is with all the red thumbs?

Having done both, I can say that real RC Helicopters makes windsurfing look easy. So easy there is no comparison.
Not those bvllsh!tfarken conta-rotating IR controlled things that a 3 y/o can fly, a proper one with cyclic and collective pitch..... doing 8 things with 2 sticks at the same time...... try that on your Wii.

Google "Trex 450 3D" or something and watch some vids...... then realise it takes 3 months just to learn to hover the damn thing.

Plus, red thumbs for a guy who is injured so may not be able to windsurf and needs a new hobby is pretty bad taste......... CAPS LOCK OR NOT

Mark, I don't know about anyone else, but he asked for a show of hands on whether other people liked the idea. I figured red-thumbs vs green-thumbs was the way to show this.

Red thumbs don't always mean someone dislikes you, your stalker aside.

Surely there is a RC model forum somewhere? Other people that are like-minded and know what's what when it comes to these.

I doubt anyone would criticize Jeremy for looking for a new hobby.

I use to love reading magazines about this RC stuff when I was a kid, but by the time I could afford them, other stuff got in the way.

Yeah fair cop.

He said "CAN I SEE A SHOW OF HANDS FOR RC PLANES & HELIS??" and I took that to mean "what do ya think about RC stuff" .... not like a poll.
Perhaps he did mean like a thumbs poll

I once had a glider which I promptly destroyed in a potato field and am now trying to build a very simple plane out of some corrugated plastic (the stuff that they use for the FOR SALE signs on houses). It's a little heavy but I've got a whopper of a brushless motor and the materials are cheap so its a fun challenge :)

I know my bro got me a wicked little heli that I can fly around our apartment for Xmas.

It's not one of those pro things with the 8 channels, but it sure as hell looks fun!

I now have a new toy with which to round up the cockateil back into his cage at bedtime!

I often use an RC glider to check out the conditions before taking off with my hangglider, if it can stay up then so can I. On some inland sites it's been attacked a few times by the Wedgies, been meaning to put the camera on it for a real close up view. Also do powered.
I asked to get a skysports section to cover such topics as Hanggliding, paragliding, skydiving , RC or anything else flying related such as in the skysports photo section but was rejected. Most of our pilots check the weather here first before BOM if flying inland. I don't like your chances but good luck anyway.

Do you need a big slope for the slope gliders?

I've got one sitting in its box (Zigi) since... a long time anyway.

Not really. Once you get the hang of it you can slope soar on a 20 to 30 foot sand dune along the beach. But,.. there is a bit of an art to doing this and when you first start you wont have it so you might find it a bit difficult on a small slope.
If you are first starting out, start with something big and slow because if you start with something small and fast it will just end up a wreck in your first session.
Also, it helps to have someone there who is half decent at it so they can give you a few pointers along the way.
You can get a good computer program and control box for about $300 so you can practice on the computer first. (Realflight G3 or later) It saves a lot of rebuilds.

Regards the original post,. I know it's got nothing to do with windsurfing/kiting etc, but it does have a lot to do with wind speed and direction.
If it's just one more heading on the top tabs I don't see why we shouldn't have it.
Most of the tabs I never look at but it's no problem that they are there.
If others are not interested in it, and I accept that many will not be, then they can just ignore them in the same way that I ignore 90% of the other tabs, like RSS feeds. What's that by the way? Is that some sort of cow fodder? I better have a look. It might be of some use.
Well that's my 2 bobs worth.

{edit} Hmmm, just had a look at RSS feeds. It said Server is too busy. I guess they are putting out more cow fodder.

I give it the thumbs up. Already there has been great stuff.

I have a mate in South Africa who is into all things flying and earns a living from flying a remote control helicopter video recording power line footage normally achieved using a real helicopter, pilot and observer. His wife womans the computer and directs him.

I have tried to fly a crappy fool proof one and could not get the hang of it and appreciate how difficult it is to fly a you beaut.

When I was a kid I built a tow up glider that was not controlled and had perfect balance. My Old man smashed it shortly after a great maiden flight. It was a balsa wood frame with tissue strengthened with dope and broke really easily.

I watched some guys launching gliders with a really long elastic launcher in Perth. There was no wind but they were getting really long air time as the launcher towed them really high. It was a pleasure to watch them land them in exactly the right spot to hook up for the next flight.
