SB Brains trust, looking at bamboo for screening behind pool in backyard.
Nice clumping stuff, grown against fence in extra big planter pots.
Was all keen on Gracilis, like pic below, but breeder told us that it's not salt tolerant. House is 100m from beach as crow flies - our pool gets the odd ghost crab in it. Plus it's a salt pool, will be some salt splash.
Screening needs to be about 1.5 - 2 stories high.
Anyone know much about bamboo or alternatives?
Looking forward to the next posting...."How do I keep this stuff under control??!!" ![]()
Easy clumping bamboo ![]()
Have you looked athttp://whisperingwindsbamboo.com/species.html
(Malay Dwarf
Growing Conditions: ?Rugged, can handle wind, salt, drought, and wet)
The Bamboo man also has this....did they state they had nothing to offer you?
Or have you gone completely off bamboo?
You could look at acacias ....but some are only 5 to 7 years in lifespan But they grow fast and tall
I used to grow them in Broome for fast privacy screens.
Check out as above veriegated Malay dwarf bamboo. I have about 25 or so planted in bugger all space up against a fence. It's grown about 1.8m in 8 months. I also have grasilis planted to try to block out an inconsiderate twat who put a 2 storey house on our fence line. Pm me if you would like pics. I'm about 2klms from the beach.
alot of your bamboos have a shallow root system, being grasses, but really solid roots. make sure it plastic pots,as they will crack clay/concrete pots as they grow. make sure the pots are on something solid underfoot!!!!!. I recon salt wont be a problem. bamboo would certainly be a better choice than palms

That's running bamboo. I'm talking clumping. In pots. On paved area.
