French Onion Soup.
Is it soup made from French onions or onion soup in the style of France ?
Neither make much sense.
You get brown onions, spring onions, red onions, salad onions, you even get onions that aren't called onions - shallots. But never heard of French onions as a specific type of onion.
And onion soup from France ? you don't get German onion soup or Italian onion soup, so calling the only type of onion soup French seems totally pointless.
LIke saying 'lets get an Italian pizza', when there are then no other types of pizza.
Is it just because it is runny and gives you the **s ?
I think it might be less about the onion and more about the toast with melted cheese on top of the soup?
Doesn't count for packet soup or dips..
