That has got to be the best race of the year!! Sat there for six hours and saw the whole thing!

Awesome driving from Tander & Percat with pressure from Lowndes in the last 10 laps and only won 0.29 of a sec

i agree the last 10 laps were great. then i agree even more that we should have races open to any car brand. bogan car heads worshipping holden and ford and will argue that you cant have any other brand race cause there not aussie brands, fmd. then again if you love a winnie red and a dagwood dog good onya

Far out! Its not about holden or ford for me, its about the drivers and teams.

Too drive these cars flat out around a 6km+ track for six hours and for the first two cars to be covered by a second, I personally think its amazing

The only real difference between the cars these days is the engines but you need a great team and two very very good drivers to get that engine and chassis to the end in first place!

Anyhoo thanks for the knocks

I agree we should have more makes in the series, and we will in 2013. But for now we have to put up with the two chassis/engine series untill cotf comes in.

I love motorsport and "Bathurst" is my grandfinal even tho it isnt the last race of the year, and I have watched every race since I was three. Sorry if I got a bit passionate

I bet Fabian Couthard thought last year's race was pretty exciting. [}:)]

Gotta love a vehicle that lets you want away from this carnage (no pun intended)

I'm old enough to remember Bathurst way back to the good old days, shakers, 327's and 6 packs, sadly them days are long gone. These days I just follow the driver, for me it's the Lowndes kid, the cars all look the same and are controlled by design.

Most years I do watch Bathurst dreaming of the past but end up giving it away for something more exciting outside. Buuuuuuut, as the dog says this year was the best for a long time, I too watched the whole lot and was on the edge of my seat at the end, ripper finish

I will say I was torn between Lowndes and Tander, I wanted Lowndes to grab victory but I also wanted Tander to hang on if only for his young side kick Percat. Anyway for me it was a win win

Not really into it now, I agree, even with my glasses on its hard to know what car is what, the old races were exciting with all the different classes of cars, the race then would have been like racing in peak hour traffic with everyone going nuts, I guess with all the changes the race is alot safer for the drivers, who can forget Dick johnson rolling the GtHO ten times down one of the safety fences, must admit I am a little bit ghoulish, I just like to watch the start and hope for lots of crashes, without injury of course.
The crowd blends into a blur of overweight blokes dressed in HDT jackets with a VB in hand yelling go the commodore, find that bit hard to understand but each to their own and I guess it gives time for all those males to go primal for a short while and then resume "normal' family activities

I lived in Bathurst for ten years and never went to the race. I did get vaguely interested back in the 80's, Nissan, Jaguars etc but somehow the Ford Holden thing was a bit like Super League.

However the current format really levels the field and races are won more on skill so you can quite understand how folks get passionate about it. Chin up Doggie

If you cycle round the track you can get well over 80ks an hour down the hill. It is a pretty mean race track.

After Whincup's car shat itself, robbing him of an almost certain easy victory my only hope was that Lowndes could catch Tander and pass him. Almost! Tander is an arse clown of the highest order and anyone who thinks differently needs to remind themselves of Phillip Island 2006. As good a driver as he is, he's dirty, unsportsmanlike and drives as such. My biggest wish was that Lowndes would put him into the wall at the end of Mountain straight on the final lap...payback's a bitch

*I too only follow drivers and have always been a Lowndes fan since his early HRT days when he wiped the floor with everyone. Also a huge Whincup fan because he's easily been the class of the field for the last 4 seasons and just seems like a humble, down to earth dude. This season and last season he also can't seem to even buy himself any luck towards the end of the season. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if Lowndes wins the championship but no one can deny that in terms of raw, consistent speed, no one has been able to match Whincup...things just seem to go wrong for the kid at times.

Holden V ford...... Aussie Aussie Aussie ..OI, OI,OI, . This is like time capsule racing, V8s Why? Why not straight sixes or parallel twins? It's like every body aspires to drive the highest form of motoring progress.....The Aussie V8!!!!!! yes everyone, its a two valve, cast iron, one ton lump of engineering failure stuck in a cart spring chassis that's been "perfected" (read unchanged) for fourty years. Awesome! Aussies don't know how good they've got it!! Has anyone seen the European touring car championship!!! or better still, Moto GP but with 500cc two strokes, YEAH!!!

Lowndesy's a Lege - I was poo lucky to win a hot lap at a damp philip island in late 2003 (just before he went Stoneys in the Falcoon) we did the first lap ok but half way round the second he slid a bit in a right curve - I was trying to get my guts back from the passenger windowsill and in a split second he had the friggin' crate back in 2nd to 3rd at top revs and sligshot us through a patch of grass on the other side of the track and we were back at 170 odd clicks and more - he didn't twitch ,,, seroiusly good pilot that boy , he has no fear and no nerves , that's why he's the most dangerous finisher in the caper.
When we finished the day he then came up the BBQ and gave us all a cap each with siggy - down to earth good guy pure.

Can't tell the cars apart? My 5 year old daughter can spot the Fords by the shape of the spoiler mount, and the Holdens by them crossing the finish line first.

what's going to happen when Ford drops the V8(falcon)? holden one design racing?
The sport has a huge fan base but I'm not one of them, for the reasons I stated earlier, watch some of the 70's 80's racers and you'll see what's lacking in today's racing(aprt from changing tyres with a wheel brace)

COTF (Car Of The Future) id the phase for the V8s. Similar to NASCAR as far as all the body shells, transmissions and suspension will be the same. The body panels will be suplied my the manufacturer eg, Holden, Ford, Hyundai, BMW ect.
Engines will be 5.0 still but can be a Hyundai or BMW V8 as well.

Yeah the races from the days before supercars were more exciting. Lots of different classes and lots of different types of cars getting around the circuit.

Maybe they could have two races over two weekends? Firstly the Supercar 1000 then the free for all 1000, including the supercars if they they want to go in it.

Funny thing there are these classes of racing. The GT classes have all that stuff in them and the racing isnt bad, bit predictable at times but good to watch.
The best class by far is the Aussie Racing cars, very close fast racing. Lots of go-kart drivers get into this class

This was the "good old days" of Bathurst.

A classic crash from 1967. Yes I did see it on TV on the day.

A bit more Bathurst history for ya.

have to agree the last 10 laps were pretty good
but - the pace car coming out like 10 times spoiled it me, bunching the cars up, really only giving the 2 or 3 frontrunners the space to put in fast laps. Russell ingall was stuck in the middle the whole time, had the cars been spaced out more he would have been right up there.
having one pace car just doesn't work i reckon better to have at least 2 and maybe even 4, would work.

My late old man use to race cars, bikes, side cars, anything with wheels in his day.
I recall sitting down in the mid to late 80's in front of the box watching Robbie Francevic and Johnny Bowe tearing around Bathurst in a bloody VOLVO.
Can you believe it ? A bloody VOLVO.
Unheard of now.
And Tom Walkinshaw in the Jaguar V12.
