Is this the end of an era?

I hope Angus is healthy at least, one of the best guitar players of all time.
But we don't know yet.

Big call. Very good at 3 chords. Many others above him in my list.

Yeah man. Who can remember any AC/DC riffs? They're not memorable at all. They're not some of the best hooks ever written.

Every snob that thinks they know music better than everyone else knows that the best songs can't be simple.

Now the intro to Thunderstruck is playing in your head.

Yep, it's subjective, and opinions are like arseholes...
Start with the Jimmy's, Hendrix and Page
Eric Clapton, BB King, Robert Johnson, Dave Gilmour, Brian May, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Duane Allman (RIP)
Tom Morello's drop D shredding, Technical execution of Steve Vai and Tommy Emmanuel

Time for some popcorn?

Sometimes in guitar big pyrotechnical solos are not the best to listen to. I personally love the way ac doc stuck to pentatonic blues scale e minor and just produced so many great riffs. It means average hacks can learn the smile scale and emulate an acdc style sound. Also, people both beginner and advanced can learn something about blues riffs and scale use from angus. Yes his songs are very simple but sometimes simple is best. Some with Rolling Stones. I think the music is timeless and shows what the solid basics in guitar can put together.

But you also forgot David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Pete Townshend, Steven Stills, Carlos Santana, Dave Mason, Lindsey Buckingham, Joe Walsh, Alvin Lee (RIP), JJ Cale (RIP), Mike Campbell (The Heartbreakers), Rory Gallagher, and Jack White.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg as well.
The thing is, Angus knows his strengths and he does them better than anyone else of that same genre, IMO.
Huge fan.

I would have to agree mastbender. He may not be the best guitarist in the world, but who else can head bang while doing a duck walk or jumping around the stage and not miss a note.

Legendary band. But really, wasn't the "era" over decades ago?

You guys raving about Angus make me laugh... You think he wrote all those riffs? I don't think so...

The man who wrote all that stuff was Malcolm. Bon Scott & Angus agreed many years ago that Malcolm was the engine room of the band. Without him the band would not exist.

So will be interesting to see if they can continue if he can't play (or more importantly... Write) with them.

Yes I was going to mention the same as above... Malcom was guitarist original and a few years older than angus. Encouraged Angus to play lead guitar so 'he could drink at the pubs'. Instead I think it was a selfless decision.

About 3/4 of the way thru Whole Lotta Rosie is pretty impressive

Whilst on blues riffs, after so long I have stumbled upon ZZ Top "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" what a bloody top guitar song.

Come on Yngwie Malmsteen was a legend... in his own lunchbox... Start at the bottom of the scale... rush to the top as fast as possible then come straight back down again. Another perfect guitar solo....

For those who didn't get it... Angus' little finger is better than anything Yngwie ever did and I don't rate Angus in my top ten. He's good but not that good...

"era"s never end, they become golden oldies, aka classic R&R.

It appears that they will continue to tour, Malcom's nephew has already stood in for him on their last tour, so he just may be continuing to do it.
Definitely hope so, but should all old rockers continue to tour?

No, the Strolling Bones should have hung it up long ago, IMO. It always surprises me at how much they get for their tickets, and they usually sell out. Mick is 70! Let your hair go grey already! And you too Paul!
Market forces can be a funny thing. They are coming back to Oz this summer, get your tickets now!
I agree with what Grace Slick said in an interview long ago, something to the effect of 'many old rockers can be an embarrassment, they should know when to quit'. She said that shortly after she retired from performing.

I was lucky enough to see them last time and they will brilliant. Best concert ever. Saw KISS many years ago too and these bigger older bands really give you everything. I really would to see ACDC again.
