Thx for link Cisco.
Start coverage heavily biased towards the big end of town (even more so than ususal!) But is was interesting seeing the bbiggest & best yachts in the world racing so close. Not sure about the Loyal/ WOXI protest - If WOXI established overlap from astern, luffing above proper course?
Watch out for two WA entrants - Knee deep & Black Adder.
Nice to watch the start on the lounge with beer in hand ![]()
My chores done, wife & kids shopping ![]()
I was on the harbour last year but the view is not as good as live TV, thanks for the link. The tracker is good value for watching different tactics.
and i thought cricket was boring....this crap now takes the cake for boring...cricket must love boxing day with these ponces as their television competition ![]()
94 boats ??? I only saw wild oats and the boat next to wild oats... Then a shot if the skipper of wild oats, then a shot of the wild oats crew and finally a shot of the wild oats channel seven sail....must be heaps of money in oats?

Couldn't you see wild oats from the harbour?
I reckon the commentators are pretty slow to pick up on whats going on.
What Mark Richards did to Loyal at the first mark rounding was perfect, he had every right, and ended up with Loyal pointing at his stern.
These guys are sailing 100 footers like dinghy's, amazing!!
Why don't the commentators say it how it is?
Yeah great tactical move and the commentators said they gwere heading to the wrong mark!! A bit pathetic
How this?
David Pescud is way out and powering along at 12 knots while others closer in are only doing 8 knots!
Great tactic going out for the current, he is the one to watch on handicap 'pun intended'.
Had a beer with him at the cruising club in Roslyn bay, small world on the water and a nice guy too.
Yeah great tactical move and the commentators said they gwere heading to the wrong mark!! A bit pathetic
Agree DunkO
Somehow I think these guys might know where the marks are!!!! FFS
Here why the disability yacht is flying along
I was behind other boats Dunko ,however it was worth it to be there.

actually they may have stuffed up.
to quote someone else:
Rule 17 is to be considered when you find your boat coming within two of your boat lengths to leeward of another boat. Once you enter this zone from astern you are no longer able to sail higher than your proper course, which is generally perceived to be your course up until the point that you entered the zone. This is where people get confused! I have seen both parties adamant they have the right of way. Firstly I have been steering a sports boat approaching a larger more traditional boat. I wanted to sail on a touch further before we gybed away to the mark so I called them to ???keep clear???. I received a torrent of abuse from the other boat and a very knowledgeable sailor yelled for us to sail our proper course to the mark! I later post-race pointed out to him the error of his ways and explained rule 17 limits a leeward boat that approaches from astern within two boat lengths to leeward to not come above HER proper course. The windward boat???s proper course is immaterial and is still obliged by rule 11 to keep clear. The old ???mast abeam??? rule has gone the way of the Dodo! I could actually see the realisation dawning on him as we read the rule book. He had been competitive sailing for over 30 years and is held in high regard. He just never kept abreast of the rules. The correct response if you find yourself in this position where you have a faster, higher sailing boat approaching to leeward is to alter your course to parallel the approaching boat???s course. Once that leeward boat sails up to you and gains an overlap they cannot then luff or sail higher (which has also happened to your scribe on more than one occasion when the shoe was on the other foot). They are obliged to go no higher than their proper course under rule 12 initially on the approach as they are overtaking from clear astern and must keep clear. Rule 17 kicks in once the overlap is established.
i heard they pulled the protest ?
Yep both boats have re-called protest and no further action![]()
Wild Oats clocking 14 knots, the rest are below 10 ![]()
Wild oaks 2012 must of picked up some local wind for awhile mineral1 ! the others were nearly standing still for bit.
Look at faceboat go, can't believe the other guys missed this current when the map showed it up so well!
Sounds like a bit of push comes to shove within the rules saltiest1,I guess there is no second place in sailing :)...
Update, faceboat has done amazedly well against bigger and faster boats. I know most of you don't care much about it but I'm enjoying it this year because of the tracker 'thanks Cisco'.
Wilparina turned around! I wish the site gave more info like updates from the skipper and navigator on each boat.
Black adder is way back, there is a strong Southey coming but they don't have to weather it! Just anchor in the lee of the main land somewhere for a bit and crack open the rum for a halftime break.
