Review from Jason in Margaret River of the 2014 Ezzy Taka (3 Batten) Wave Sail
"Here is the first part of my review of the new 2014 Ezzy Taka 5.4 and 4.9 , I chose these two sails for lighter wind wave sailing and the shorter boom lengths compared to an Ezzy Elite (4 batten) 5.3 and 5.7 and light weight for float and ride sailing .First test was on the Taka 5.4 in 12 to 15 knts on a 94 Goya Quad and I weigh 75 kg. The 5.4 Taka (rigged on Ezzy RDM mast combo 400 base/400 top) has plenty of bottom end I was planning in 12 to 15 knots but it does not pump like other sails instead more or a scoop and pull action, once planning the sail feels comfortable and easy going.I took the 4.9 Ezzy Taka (rigged on Ezzy RDM mast combo 370 base/400 top) out last Sunday at Margarets, rigging is easy just set to the mark using Ezzy's precise Calibrated Rigging System and fine tune from there, I had been out on a 4.2 Ezzy Tiger (5 Batten) but now the wind had dropped to 15 to 20 knots with gusts 25 to 30 knots, this was a good opportunity to see how the 4.9 handled the gusts, it coped ok but you would not want to sail around overpowered all the time, but in the overall conditions the sail was great, light in the hands and a dream to gybe, I did note that this isn't a blasting sail it just seems to reach a set speed, still fast enough for jumping but not the same as an Ezzy Tiger or Elite (4 Batten). The construction of the Taka is up to Ezzy's high standard, bullet proof and light. On the wave the Ezzy Taka is very smooth and easy to handle allowing you to focus on where you want to turn in general it is fun to use but im keen to try it in offshore and more onshore conditions soon. Stay tuned for part two of my review."Available now, rigging and promo videos here:
