A civic sense of humour
I was watching an episode of Tony Robinson's Time Walks (ABC TV). This particular episode featured one of the inner-eastern suburbs of Sydney. The presenter came to a small park.

"Look at that! Isn't that clever?" he enthused. There were four small replicas of roadside signs attached to the park fence. The signs were of a sheep, a toilet, a cow and another toilet.

He pointed to each one in turn. "There's wool, a loo, a moo and a loo. Wool, loo, moo, loo! Get it"?

I do enjoy finding wry gems such as that, where town planners abandon practicality, for the sake of quirkiness. Here's a droll example from the centre of Canberra. I must have looked at this sign many times, without seeing the detail.

Enjoy.
