Trainer Kite for me but good for the kids as well
Hi All

So on the weekend the penny dropped and I decided that I was going to buy a kite. Have always loved watching the kite surfers but due to young kids and a tight budget its never been an option.

But things have changed both girls are older 5 and 8 and its time to find a sport WE ALL LOVE, and I think this might be it. Both my wife and I have skiied, snowboarded, water skiied, knee boarded and bodyboarded. We are not by any means any good these days but we not completely out of our elements on a board so that's a plus. I also have an old stunt kite in the shed so im not a complete noob to flying a kite.

This leads me to what to buy first, I have spent the last few days extensively reading and watching anything about Kitesurfing!
As I want to learn and learn well before lessons! My research (mainly here) has lead to needing a trainer kite, to be honest if i didn't have the kids Id probably skip it and go buy a big kite and learn the hard way......... But I dont want to scare the kids away so I need some advice.

FYI Im located in Macclesfield SA so Goolwa is only 40min away and Ive read about some nice spots not too far away.

The plan

Buy a 2.5 Ozone UNO

Should I buy the Ozone Contact Bar with it?
Or should I buy another bar combo??

With this I can learn to control the kite as an extension of my body (as recommend in this and other sites) It also has depower and is close to the same as a proper kite, I dont want to be learning twice and i dont want to teach the kids and wife twice. Hence learn as close to the real thing. Its small enough to teach the kids also being a plus.

Then I would probably buy a UNO 4 or something similar for them and I to progress too. This would be the point myself and my wife would go get lessons and buy a bigger kite, but I want the kids to progress as well, so a bit of sliding around in the shallows with the 2.5 and 4 depending on weight and wind.

I would like to jump straight to the 4m but I think it would be to big for my eldest at 8 shes light maybe 30kg.

The goal is not to buy things twice eg. if I buy a bar I want to to be usable on other kites if possible. I also know the smaller kites would get used buy friends and friends kids.

Lastly where do the SA locals buy there gear from?? most of the stores around only have limited brands and stock.

Any recommendations would be great!
