The worlds best Stand Up Paddlers in Dubai
Not a bad paddle for a Monday morning is it?
Jamie Mitchell is one such guy, with a quick 33km jaunt around the man-made islands off Dubai on Monday morning. He did it with the guys from SUP racer, and thanks to the very light winds they experience here it proved to be an amazing morning on the water. Not many people could say they've done a paddle like this one!
As for the main competition, Abu Dhabi played host to an awesome exhibition event. Amidst a dust storm on the final day, Connor Baxter was left standing on the podium alongside Jamie Mitchell and Zane Schweitzer. Racing in the flat, blue water, in front of contrasting desert and cityscapes, some would say conditions were perfect. Connor and Jamie were way out in front for most of the final showing the rest of the pack who's boss. Needless to say Connor's been on top of the game for the last few years now and doesn't show any signs of losing his cool.
Thanks to the Wadi Adventure wave pool, the guys got to rip it up on stand up paddle boards in the endless perfect waves on offer. Zane Schweitzer ended up winning the event, with Olivia Piana winning both the ladies surfing and sprints! Using a different skill set to ocean surfing, the surfers have to keep close to the wall and pick the only wave that comes along. No points for wave selection here, you only get one wave and you can bet it's going to be exactly the same as the last one. That's what makes it epic though, and probably why the Wadi Adventure pool has been home to heaps of pro surfers, kiteboarders (yes, Keahi did it) and bodyboarders of late.
