Meet and greet with Keahi De Aboitiz
We do too, and that's why we checked out this video from the Stand Up World tour, which is all about Keahi's life as a waterman. With a stand up paddle board, a kite, and even back in the day with a longboard... Keahi shares it all. Oh, and did you know he's going out with famous kiteboarder Moona White?
Just thought we'd add that little tidbit of information because it's pretty big news in the kite world. Anyway, back to stand up paddling. And did you know why Keahi's so good at aerials? He doesn't really know why he can't do them on a shortboard, but he does think it might have something to do with the fact he has something to balance on with both SUP and a kite. That balance point allows him to drive harder at the lip, or whatever it is that allows him to pop that whopping great board out of the water.
Speaking of whoppers, Keahi thinks his 8'0" board is now too big, and is looking for a shorter board so he can join in with the cool kids on 7'4" and smaller. The extra length doesn't really worry him, but as he said: boards are getting shorter every year, so he's got to keep up with the times.
Check out the video below for a few action shots, interesting snippets of info and some good old fashioned advice.
