Aussie SUPer stars head to California for the BOP

Packed beach at the start of the BOP racing.
We’ve been waiting for it all year, but the week of the Battle of the Paddle is here!

We’re not talking about the generic race format we see at almost every stand up paddling event, we’re talking about the original, the one and only Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle. Rivalled only by the Molokai to Oahu long distance race, the Battle of the Paddle brings the worlds best stand up paddlers to Doheny State beach in California for two days of fast and furious stand up paddling.

This year the Battle of the Paddle is expecting over 1000 entries from all over the world, all competing for a share of $25,000 in prize money and of course the title of being the winner of SUP’s biggest race of the year.

It’s all happening on the 28th and 29th of September, that’s this Saturday and Sunday (or Saturday night to Monday morning for us here in Australia). As usual, our team of Aussie SUPer stars (get it!?) will be there, and there’s every chance they’ll be standing atop the podium by the time we wake up on Monday. Look out for Travis Grant in the mens fleet, and Terrene Black in the womens. They’re not the only Aussies though, the list is too hefty to write here, but you can be sure those two at the front will have an entire pack of fellow Aussies breathing down their neck for the entire race.
