Teams GSS Mermaid and Octane have become the first to sign up for the 2010 Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship.

Following November's announcement of the Formula Four Stroke Association's integration with the Powerboat P1 series, two of the premier teams in the 150-class have quickly to pledge their allegiance.

GSS Mermaid driver David Hobson said: 'We're all extremely excited about racing with Powerboat P1 in Europe. I came to Gothenburg last year for the Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea and was hugely impressed with the championship's high levels of professionalism.

Having been racing in the F4SA for five years, three years alongside current navigator Kirsty Clark, Hobson feels that the entire fleet will do everything possible to ensure that they are on the starting line in Croatia in April.

Octane pilot Simon Loveridge is a 'big believer' in the partnership and can't wait to make his debut amongst Powerboat P1's finest.

'It's a great fit. This time, last year, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of the series, so to come on board with Powerboat P1's exciting infrastructure, is a great lift for everyone.

Promising a unique offshore racing spectacle, Loveridge, hopes his 150-class peers can recreate similar scenes to Plymouth last year, where six boats were visibly kissing the sides of their hulls approaching a turn.

'It makes for incredible viewing. Unlike other world offshore racing series' you won't see any boat pulling away from the field. In terms of creating a level playing field, the SuperStock championship will be an exclusive powerboat racing platform.'
