More from Jo here on how her year has been going and what's ahead.
I had a strong start to the year competing in the ISAF World Cup event in Palma, Mallorca and placing 24th out of 60 followed by the ISAF World Cup event in Hyeres, France and finishing 14th out of 58. I also won the QLD State RSX Championships and European Raceboard Championships. In July I race at the RSX European Championships in Turkey but this time had quite a disappointing result due to problems with equipment and illness.
I spent 6 weeks training in Santander in preparation for the worlds. It is a very tricky venue with mostly light winds and very strong current. Light winds are not my strength but I have put in a lot of hard work over the last year to improve my speed, tactics and fitness so I am confident that I can achieve solid and consistent results. I've also been working on my stronger wind racing by testing some equipment and trying new starting techniques and can consistently race amongst the top girls in these conditions. After the ISAF worlds I will compete in the Raceboard World Championships which are also in Spain. In December I will compete in Sail Melbourne and then the RSX nationals which are in Melbourne from 16-18 December (anyone is welcome to come and give it a go, lots of fun pumping and age divisions!! ;) )
