Is it racist?
So instead of using profanity around my kids, I have adopted the insult of calling people monkeys due to their silly nature and half the intelligence of a human being....
Eg, if I get cut off in my car I yell "what a bloody monkey"....
But today, I was having an argument with an Indian guy and went to call him a friggin monkey but luckily pulled up out of the nose dive and didn't....
I assume that he would have taken the insult as a racist comment when there is absolutely no intention of race relation.....
In fact, I would argue that I am being racist by not insulting him as a monkey as I do with everyone else as I have now descriminated against the colour of his skin....
It seems that a comment is only racist if someone is offended by it.... So how do you know what comment is going to offend? (Within reason)
True rascism is not about being offended by a comment, but by being ostracized or discriminated against based on the colour of your skin....
I'm sick of people getting upset over comments that aren't actually racist, but instead have simply offended a person of another race...
I also understand that it is wrong to call someone an "ape" in the case of Adam goodes if your intention is to like his race to a knuckle dragging sub-human, but if you are simply referring to the fact that he is big and hairy, then why is it racist?
Where is the line these days?
Ok, rant over, flame suit on.....
I would like to hear some reasonable arguments to the point... I'm not just trying to stir the pot....
And for the record I am a Caucasian male who has lived both in aboriginal community centers, major Australian cities, overseas in Muslim, Christian and Buddhist countries and I identify as being agnostic in religous belief.
