Favourite boards, and the board you dearly miss...
Come on guys, let's "talk story"... Tell us some stories!
My grand old favourite is The Occasional Pin... 9'6. Handles everything you can throw at it, and it's amazing... Goes way better than you would expect in small stuff... Excels in juicy waves around Head High and beyond... Handles the big stuff with grace... Fatter waves, no problem... Hollower stuff, you can get in early and set a rail takeoff, and it never ceases to amaze, and surprise! :)
Anyone else order boards that they have thought long and hard about then immediately begin questioning, second guessing or regretting things?
Should it be a tad longer/shorter/thicker/wider? Should there be concaves/vee/magic dust? Oh god now I am thinking about the subtleties of rocker and foil.....aaaaaarrrrrgh.....
Should it be more similar or more different to what I already have?
Inspired by SP. Big Spazz is excluded from this one for obvious reasons
Mine is a Sweet potato that was brought second hand 4 yrs ago. Still works sort of. I keep meaning to give it away or throw it in the bin, I have even made a replacement for it, but I still like to ride it. It has brought me so much goodness over the years that I can not bring myself to depart with it.
I also have a board styled off a 1970's McCoy with straight edge rails that a mate made about 7 yrs ago. Its super fun in 2-3ft point break type waves but it hardly gets used. I lent it to a mate - who jumped off the rocks at Dee Why and got smashed up and did some board damage. Idiot. Anyway I need to move it on - have fixed all the dings. Still goes well. Free if anyone wants it.
Found a couple gems hidden deep in the backyard of a mates place last night. I knew he had a few boards there - he had about 20!!! I have taken a couple of them off him and brought them home for some love. They certainly need it - it looks like they have not seen any for a long time. I am looking forward to riding them both once I get them water tight. Should be a blast. The orange one is 6'7" and the pale green / blue one is 6ft. They are both pretty chunky and have had some pretty poor efforts at repairs. I am not going to try and colour match them, but will dig out all the old poor efforts at fixing and make sure they are nice and water tight. They are almost past the point of no return. Will keep you posted as I progress. Will take some time I am a thinking
