Beach a mystery to many schoolchildren "What The"!
The 1st line of this story gob smacked me "What The"

Beach a mystery to many schoolchildren
The West Australian November 4, 2010, 5:35 am

A South West primary school principal is leading a revolution in how kids play at school - after discovering many of his students had never been to the beach less than 1km away.

When Withers Primary School principal Stuart Cumming realized that many of his students had little freedom to play outside, he embarked on a Churchill Fellowship this year to study how schools in Britain helped students connect with nature.

Mr Cumming hopes to make Withers school, in Bunbury, the State's first "forest school" where children can discover the joys of the bush and the beach through more outside play.

Students have planted a vegetable garden and native plants, with hopes the school can one day become an extension of nearby bush.

The impetus came after a brief survey of students before school swimming lessons.

"I found a large number of our students had never been to a beach and when the beach is less than a kilometre away, it was a bit of an eye opener," he said.

"There is a concern there is a lot of danger out there and (some) parents are concerned to let their kids go out to the beach."

Mr Cumming visited 23 schools in Britain in June and July.

"When I was at a school in the Isle of Skye in Scotland, they had cut the oval in half and planted woodland on it," he said.
"The kids could go into that woodland at lunchtime and they were playing busily there."

ME
I find it extremely odd..that in my life I played in the bush at school during breaks
and in the sand dunes and beach after school and all holidays..and that was in good old windy rainy Esperance...(I know we did not have PC's..but is that just an excuse now?)

It's not like Bunbury is inland!

Conspiracy Free Forums...
Hi All,

At the request of many, the Seabreeze forums have been declared a "Conspiracy Free" zone.

The funny thing about this, is that it may well be considered a conspiracy.

What this means is that chem trails, 911 plots, flouride & other classics are probably best discussed on sites which are dedicated to them.

Seabreeze is a watersports website, we're here for fun ..

sneaky Esperance weekend
Since i have a De panner working with me at the moment we decided to sneak off to esperance for a quick little sightsee, fish and sail for a few days.
i havent sailed here since the early1990's so it was great to see haw the mini went on the fine hard sand. Lucky Bay has a really fine quartz sand that squeals as you sail over it, and is brilliant for really nice 360's
effectively there is only about 200m of the beach that can be easily sailed , the rest has tricky conditions as the wind comes over dunes. you need a full on seabreeze to sail here. it is a national park too , so check with the ranger, and pick a time when there isnt too many people on the beach.

Next day we had a little sail at Cape Le Grande. The beach has a 12km downwinder, but again a good seabreeze is really needed. there are lulls where big dunes block the wind , but also big sections of low dunes where you just smoke it down the beach, but my little 3.8m only managed a 53.5 kph on the day. Bryan from Kalgoorlie Blokarts has managed a 60kph on the beach , and has managed to sail past the 12km point and come out at Wylie Bay after some towing when the breeze died.

and of course , tradition demands that you finish the weekend with a few runs to see if you can get the yacht floating, whilst you swim in the crystal waters
