Hot Waves & Tasty Babes !
On Sunday before the 6m Hoax Swell (which was actually 3m+ by the time it wrapped in here), it was like 0.5m / 1 foot. I was getting some lovely sliders on the old favorite 9'6 Brewer.

I was running up and down the board, throwing in some cutties. But I remember having my foot planted in the wax, and giving my knee the slightest little twang at some stage. I knew it was nothing, but I was thinking that could have easily been 10 times worse.

I've also got another little slice in my foot from getting off the reef yesterday. I copped a bruise yesterday getting worked a little bit too. Plus my elbows have been getting a work over clutching onto the board in the heavy surf.

But with all of those little "nothing much injuries", I was having a blast today at Winki Lowers on the Yellow Dream Machine. I love that wave, and I love that board!

Then I went home to this...

Beer & Bundy & stuff
Seabreeze Torquay Weekend hasn't happened yet!

My mate told me about the 5L Heineken Kegs, and tells me that the kegs are the real deal from Holland. And it's true, it's the real deal. It's not a bad drop either. Not the "brewed under license" stuff. It's "engineered" to last for 30 days after you pop the keg. But my mate had half a keg on the shelf at room temperature for 9 months, and accidently forgot about it. Put it back in the fridge, and he said was still perfect.

Kind of fun pulling a draught beer on tap at home too!

The bundy bit was just to Mac's attention!

Autumn Swells
Well, easter sure turned on the swell tap over here in the West.
Saturday morning I pulled my 9'3" from the rack and had my first longboard session for the year.
Gotta have something to love about winter

Should every longboarder have a log?
Just been thinking, with the new board being an all rounder is there a need/want to have a log style board?

I've got the 10' redline but can't help thinking I'd like a more traditional style log for those smaller glassy days.

So who's got one & what do you think of them?

Short board for big guy
Hi,
Im 105 kg and 39 years old and have been surfing for about 15 years on and off.
I surf longboards and shortboards though recently have been on the longboard because of the very small and crap conditions here in Perth. A recent trip down south taught me the value of a good short board and I missed a couple of good sessions at a well known break because it didnt suit a 9'8 mal. my crew got heaps of rippers on their shortboards and they are average like me:)
I know this topic has been done to death but I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with big guy shortboards? i've been looking around a bit and there are a few like the CI M13 from Channel Islands and some from the guys and Base Surfboards like the Simon Anderson Big Boy and Mollusc Robo. any thoughts/ideas much appreciated

Noseride - which boards to look for?
Hi Guys,
I've been following this forum for a few years now first time to post.

I've been riding a Billy Tolhurst 9'2" x 22 7/8" x 2 13/16" square tail tri-fin for the last ten years or so since I started riding a longboard (I also have a really sweet Brett Munro 5'10" quad fin fish).

I love the Tolhurst board, it's really loose, I can get on the nose, but I'd really like to stay on the nose in the pocket.

Question is do I go super traditional style tanker around ten foot or do I go something in between around 9'6"?

Any suggestions from the forum would be much appreciated, I'm a mid 40's 77kg 5"9" guy, surfing since I was 9 y/o, I mostly ride the reefs in Westernport Bay (Vic).

Cheers, Merricks

McTavish Rincon '68
Mac suggested posting this board here. It's kind of neither a Longboard, or shortboard. Shortboard orientated, but the McTavish Longboard guys might find it interesting....

Bob shaped it for himself, and he was riding it with a set of Kelly Quads that Kelly gave gave. Needless to say, the board came to me without these valuable fins !

The "spread" is a little unusual. Front fins are a touch further forward than a normal spread, and closer together. The thinking was for the fins to more under your foot, and to allow it to go rail to rail better. Generally making the board more lively. And it has works!

The board is slim/trim in the tail, without the usual McTavish Hips at the front fins, as a step-up type board, for overhead waves.

Available from McTavish as a custom.

This is 7"10 x 21 x 3". However, it actually measures 20"1/2 wide. Probably feels more like 2"7/8 thick, due to the concaves, and bevels that McTavish uses.

Rincon '68 - McTavish
This arrived at my door unannounced this morning....

Looking forward to getting it wet on the Points down here. Some of you might have seen it floating around in the greater Byron area...

I took it over to Doug Rogers this arvo and we are a bit dubious about the quad spread.. but we will wait and see!! We will do a board swap next session on a long right hand point...

7'10 x 21 x 3 (but it measures 20"1/2 ! Talk us through that one Bob!). Allegedly hand shaped by Bob, but it is definitely tinted.

Not a typical short board, but a nice board.... it might receive a centre box yet !! Something to play around with anyway, and keep me off the couch

(I'm 6'0 and weigh just under 90kg's, and I'm about to turn 37, and I like to stroke into waves with certainty !! )
