July 14, 2010 - Kahuku, HI – This weekend the Haleiwa Arts Festival will paint the North Shore with a splash of color as it showcases the best of Hawaii’s artist. Self-taught artist Hilton Alves will be celebrating 10 years as an artist at this year’s event. As an artist and waterman, Hilton Alves exudes passion for both the ocean and art. This love is expressed through a series of paintings about stand up paddle surf, surf, marine life, perfect waves, seascapes, and others. Speaking of what is special about his 10-year anniversary Hilton explains, “I feel I’m doing something special when my art work is inspiring people to have fun in the ocean and be healthy.”
The allure of stand up paddle’s recent revitalization in Hawaii drew Hilton to the state and living and paddling in Hawaii has been a constant driving force in his artwork. He hopes that SUP art will be welcomed with Aloha into the hearts and minds of all ocean lovers and the art world. SUP and art enthusiast alike can visit the festival and appreciate how the sport has spilled into the art world creating this sub-genre of surf art. With the Haleiwa shoreline, frequented by stand up paddlers, as its background the Haleiwa Arts Festival is the perfect place to share his Waterman Collection and ocean inspired art with the world. Along with celebrating his 10th Anniversary as an artist, Alves is also celebrating three 1st place SUP race finishes in the 12’ and under division this year including the 1st Surf-n-Sea SUP Into Summer Race, the North Shore Lifeguard Summer Solstice Race and the Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle Open Race.
The Hale'iwa Arts Festival’s Thirteenth Annual Summer ArtFest will feature approximately 125 juried visual artists plus musicians, singers, dancers, cultural trolley tours, student art, art demonstrations and children's art activities. The free event will be held on Saturday, July 17th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, July 18th from 10am to 5pm in Historic Hale'iwa Town on the North Shore of O`ahu. Hilton Alves wishes all to visit the festival and enjoy ocean inspired art by the ocean this weekend.
