Just say you wanted to design a kitetrap.

What would this thing look like ?

I'm talking about some crazy device that stands on the beach,

and is capable of catching a flying kite safely with no damage to the gear.

An apparatus in place of a kite bitch, in other words.

[And please don't mention tethering systems for self-landing].

It could be something as simple as a wheelie bin half-filled with sand ...

and fixed to the lid might be a coiled spring-like flexy extention that could possibly snare bridle lines as they fly by.

The reason I ask is this.

I was checking out this dude who was way up the beach from me.

I could tell he was purposely pushing his maxed-out kite into the bushes as well as a fence,

in a desperate attempt to land his kite in the strong frontal weather.

A kiter nearer to him eventually gave assistance and the outcome was good.
