My Comments:
My goto kite is a 2013 17M edge. So this is my main point of reference for this review. I have also ridden many other large kites which I will also compare against.
I have a sector 60, which I use occasionally to get out when there is nothing, but bought this kite specifically to use with my twintip for boosting/ freeride in lighter winds. I like to ride well powered, and with the light winds we typically get here in Darwin, figured the 19 would be a winner.
I have had it for around a month or so now, and have used it in winds from 10-20Knots.
On the 17M, I can be well lit in around 15-16 knots (keep in mind this is the tropics). On the 19, this has come down to 13 or 14. It has a fair bit more static grunt, but is obviously a bit slower. Not as slow as I expected tho⦠I can stay upwind in around 10 or 11. (100kg on a 134 Nobile NHP).
It probably doesn't have as much static grunt as the 18 Dyno, but turns better.
I was a bit worried when I first launched it, as it steered like a pig. The rear lines were about 250mm too long, (ozone have since realised their mistake, bridles too long), which I fixed, and was then pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind this is a bloody big kite, so if you think a 12M is big, forget it.
It boosts well, and was easy to adjust to in terms of setting up the jump, not really that much different from the 17. The hang is considerably longer than the 17 (which already has awesome hang), and some significant retiming of rotations etc was required to compensate on landing.
It folds occasionally when I screw up a kiteloop and crash when its in the middle of the powerzone, but all of my edges (and most other large 4 line kites I have ridden) do the same when used towards the top of their windrange.
Im guessing this kite is aimed directly at the racers, as a super light wind option, but it is a great lightwind freeride kite too, and well put together as usual with Ozone.
cheers T
