Seems like theres a few people down in the dumps on here, so i thought I would write about my experience last week.

I work on a boat in the Mediterranean and last week we had to stop in the island of Menorca, as there was a large storm brewing and we were in no rush to get to our destination.
We knew there would be waves somewhere, as the swell charts were saying 3mtr + of swell.
We checked a map, rented a car and drove to a beach that looked like it had some potential.
We surfed a nice enough wind blown right hander that day, and returned to the boat happy.
The next day there was still a bit of swell around, so we drove back to the same beach, to find that it was flat, although we could see there was still some swell around.
After a bit more driving to other near by beaches, we had given up and were heading home when we saw two cars with boards on the roof, a quick handbrake U turn and all of a sudden we were asking in our best broken spanish where the waves were, not really expecting any help.
These guys faces lit up and told us to follow them, so after a drive down a ****ty 4wd track, then a 30 min walk, we stumbled over the hill to be greated with shoulder to head high pointbreak, with 3 other guys out.
Complete locals secret spot that these guys shared with us. We spent the next few hours hooting these local boys into some of the funnest waves I have surfed in a long time.
When it was too dark to surf anymore, everyone walked back to the cars, and we broke out the beers and talked surfing for another hour.

The good side of surfing is still out there, it just seems like back in Aus everyone is so focused on shredding every wave possible and there are so many crew doing it that the original brotherhood has disappeared, its only when you go to these out of the way places that you get a glimpse into how it must have been years ago.
