NSWWA Event 1, Spring Bash, ILLAWARRA 11/12th Sept

Amazingly it's only four weeks until the New South Wales Wavesailing Association 2010/11 Series opener! It's time to dust off the sails and boards and head to the Illawarra for the 11th/12th September. This is always a great event, a time to catch up with fellow sailors, meet new people and generally share the stoke that a new season of NE'rs is just around the corner.

The competiton will be held at Port Kembla for a Westerly, Windang for a Southerly and Gerroa for a NE'r. Details of the sign on location will be posted in Seabreeze so please keep an eye out for updates.

Finally, the BBQ location will be in Gerroa so it would be worthwhile organising accommodation there and not further north.

If you want to do the whole season please help our treasurer by pre-paying via the forms found at www.nswwavesailing.org.

Lets hope for some decent swell and good winds.

The Association has a number of new faces who are all extremely committed to making this the best season yet - smooth running, fun, competitive and with the biggest turnouts.

NSWWA Event 1, Dirty Dog, COMPETITION INFORMATION

It’s amazing to think that after a cold, long and windless winter, we are only one week away from the opening event of the 2010-11 NSW Wavesailing Association Series. A lot of effort has been put into making this the best year yet and we’re all looking forward to getting the green flag up for the first heat!

The 2010-11 NSWWA Series is proudly and generously sponsored by Neil Pryde - thanks Neil Pryde, it makes a massive difference to our Association. Also adding a significant amount of time, product and assistance are the ever dependable and supportive WindSurfnSnow crew, who will be at every event of the series. Dirty Dog and AskHuey are also providing some excellent prizes for individual events. More sponsors will be confirmed later in the series.

Last year we had a record number of new Amateurs, Juniors and Women - if you’ve ever been tempted to try competition sailing this is the year! Ultimately, NSWWA provides a safe, friendly and competitive environment whilst making sure we have fun! If you have not competed before, please keep an eye out on Seabreeze to make sure you head to the correct beach. There will be a BBQ on Saturday night in Gerroa, and you can often find people in Gerroa Fishos having a beer on the Friday.

As this is the first event of the season we need to get every competitor signed up, t-shirts allocated (for season members) and heats drawn. Therefore can you all please aim to get the competition site between 9:00 and 10:00. Sign on for the competition closes at 10:30 sharp. Again this may change if an early morning Southerly/Westerly is forecast. We also have some great hoodies to buy so bring some cash!

Finally, we have some amazing plans lined up for this year which will only be available to NSWWA competitors at the events. We’ll let WindSurfnSnow explain more in a future posting....

Gerroa - September 12 - NSWWS Comp at Gerroa
This is like deja vu from a couple of weekends ago. It's sunny, there is no wind and waves are in the 2 foot range with the prospect of a light NEer later in the day. But first things first.

The guys and girls from the NSW Wavesailing Association kicked off their 2010/ 2011 Summer season yesterday. Port Kembla turned out to be a dud. Or to be more precise the wind turned out to be a dud. For once BOMs forecast was actually spot on and the Westerly dropped out around dawn. Around lunch time it swung around to the NE. Not really enough for a proper windsurfing session but that didn't stop some of the lighter guys to give it go in Gerroa. The 15 minutes or so I watched I did see a couple of really nice rides on shoulder high waves.

Now back to the weather. As I said it's very light at the moment but we should see a good 15 knts from the NE by lunch time. The swell is not huge and I doubt we will see anything near in quality to what we had yesterday afternoon. Still there should be a the odd wave for those lucky enough be in the right spot at the right time.

If you are in Sydney I'd say don't bother driving down unless you are absolutely desperate.

It's still early in the season but we have already had a number of sailable Nor'easter days. Things are looking promising. Here is hoping for a great summer.
