Paul N and I did a paddle across Port Philip (Bay!) on Sunday, started at Mordialloc and ended up at Portarlington 5 hours and 45 minutes later, almost spot on 40k. We think we may have been the first suppers to go right across the guts!
Forecast was for 15 to 25 knot easterly winds so we had a fun downwinder planned, turned out to be light variable winds pretty much all the way. Bit of an easterly push over the last hour but no runners to speak of.
We tagged along with the Outlaw Paddling crew, Jarad and the guys were kind enough to wait for us at the finish, no shame in being beaten by surf-skis! They also provided the car and trailer pick-up at the other end, fantastic service.
Thanks heaps Jarad. Amazing to see what tiny 'hardly there' runners the surf-skis can pick up. If you want to try paddling a surf ski in Melbourne these are the people to get in touch with.
