If surfing rocky locations, it's important to check this part of the legrope before you go out. Ditto before heading off on a downwinder. (see photo)
If you are just surfing beachies, no trouble at all... your board will just end up on the sand !! But there can still be a risk of fin plug damage, if the fins bite into the sand at the wrong moment...
This leggie snapped at the other end, but on closer inspection at this end, there was signs that it was on the way out !

(upon snapping this one, I was wondering whether 'clear' was any weaker than 'black'.... swapped it over to black and snapped the black one within an hour! Both leggies were around 2 years old, different brands.... broken in a really solid swell about 1 month ago.... I now have 2 x 8mm dia leggies in two different brands again...)
