Losing our Australian Identity
Personally, I think that there are too may immigrants in Australia and I think I'm losing my identity as an Australian.

I like foreigners and migrants, when they are in the minority. They have built our country. More and more I'm finding myself now in the minority. I am feeling like a foreigner in my own country. (I guess I'm learning what it must have been like for our first Australians). By now, I would have expected I'd be entitled for some well earned brownie points, for being raised here and knowing where we have come from. But, I'm finding being a born and bred local in my particular industry, doesn't count much.

I thought it was kind of cool about 5 years ago when the foreigners were working in 7-11 and driving cabs and renting my investment property. I think it's great that many of them have upgraded themselves, and I'm sure Australia will be better for it in the long run. I guess my concern is how rapidly I've seen Australia change. The change that's happened in the last 5 years, has been overwhelming.

Workplace banter is now stifled - so many different people and cultures to consider. It's almost impossible to make a joke that everyone can get a giggle from. It's like my history of growing up in Melbourne doesn't exist anymore. Small talk about TV, the footy, cultural changes, and just your general bitching about stuff, has evaporated.

For the time being, I may as well be like everyone else - keep my head down, bum up, put my headphones on and keep smiling while traveling to my dead end job with my face in some Indian's armpit.

It's just a matter of time before their own rathole countries get a leg up on us, and then I guess many of them will return back to drive taxis and operate 7-11 stores in their natural environment.
