Only 3 weeks until the Whalebone. Hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder this year than last.
There is $1000 Prize money for the 12'6 class. It costs $55 to enter and you get a T-shirt, entry in all prize draws, free drinks in the Marquee and a heap of other goodies. There will be a Starboard SUP given away at the presentations at the Cott.
You do need to get your entries in before the event though. Entry forms are available here
http://www.whaleboneclassic.com.au/If the weather is like it was a couple of years ago (i.e light off-shore, a bit of swell), we are thinking of setting the course like below.
Each leg would be about 500m, so still 3kms in total but we thought it make things a bit more interesting catching some waves on the way in and negotiating some whitewater on the way out. No running legs though just a paddle around buoys.
The advantage of this is that we don't need to do a car shuffle and it will be a better spectacle for the people on the beach.
If there is a southerly blowing, we will go back to the original plan and have a straight line race from Sandtracks as below.
This course is still 3k's... maybe a bit longer.
What do you think? Any preferences on the course?
