It's that time!! It's almost here!! Only a day or so away!! The exact thing going through Andrew 'Casso' Cassidy's mind yesterday out the Bower. 'Crap! Young grommies are a comin'… must charge and show 'em who's boss'.
If that thought wasn't there, it certainly wasn't too far away. The talent of the likes of Keahi, Kai Bates, et. al. would make any mid twenties lad cry in agony from the beating he's going to get, let alone those approaching the masters. Then there is still Paul Jackson, The Froffing Goat (John Christiansen), Noel Graham, the alley crew and of course THE DOG to worry about!!! It was no surprise that Casso was getting some last minute training in. Whilst not perfect for those classic bower days, it certainly was for training.
I've long said, surf a new board in the worst conditions, then you know if its going to be unreal when its clean and pumping. Same goes for training. If you can shred in onshore slop, you can throw buckets when its bulls**t!!
The bower yesterday was certainly in that league. Crowded onshore slop! It made me weep. Where are these picture perfect waves that Sydney is known for? I felt like a British tourist getting rained out on the only trip to Bondi Beach. It was like I was dead inside. Then, out of the corner of my eye, was Casso, SHHREDDINNGG! Not typical Casso lay-back style that I have come to love, but fat onshore slop carving. If I had a bar of soap, I would have thrown it to the lads in the water to have a shower under those buckets. It was lovely to see.
When will the waves return? Who knows. One thing is for sure, Casso's ready. BRING ON MAMBO!
