Master Chef contestant, Sarah, of Chinese descent is interviewed on radio, and the presenter attempts to greet her in Chinese. Sarah then slams the radio presenter for being racist by assuming that Sarah would understand the Chinese greeting.
I've seen plenty of TV talk show hosts, or radio hosts, greet people they are interviewing using a traditional greeting in a foreign language, and it always seems to be well received and simply some fun. Is it racist to recognise someone's heritage and toss a common greeting phrase to them? I feel like saying that I like Chinese food will be taken as a racist statement one day.
