I'm a 80kg wing foiler on HA1080 and want to do short DW runs of 500-1000m and go back upwind. My regular spot is Cabezo in El Medano which is kind of small to mid wind swell waves and wind of 13-18kn.Would the 870 have more glide than my 1080? I don't need all the lift 1080 has, but still would want to have at least the same glide and stall speed and ideally tighter turns. Or is 970 a better choise?
honestly i'd be going the 870. Will take you a bit to adjust but even the 870 will have a ton more glide than the 1080 once you understand how to access it. It will turn but it's a different style of turning. The 870 has replaced our 1080 for down winding and even surf foiling in really small conditions. The 970 (i have both) will def give you more glide but the span is quite noticeable - forget trying to rip a turn on that even close to a 1080.
Yoi really need to choose a UHA on equivalent span rather than sq cm.
Thank you, eppo! It was a great help. Ordering my UHA870 and dart 120
