Stick with it and you will be fine. I use the 180 with my HA840 and 1040 with the 64 fuse. I also use the forward position ( 2 holes closest to the mast ) for the stab.
Tankers here in the UAE are usually going too slow to generate much of a wake. For your strike mission you would need a boat or ski to get 10k offshore before hitting it. Some of the Russian oligarchs or sheiks superyachts put out a decent wake closer to shore.
