Welcome to the opinion fest!!!! You did ask! At least try a blast once, you will not look back. Took me from a flogging mid sailor to a speedster in a season, forgiving, easy to gybe and I never even wet start any more just uphaul. Trust me im a fanatic, forgive the pun! I did up grade to Jags last few years and they are defiantly faster but not quite as forgiving! Go on try a blast.

It's great to read the difference of opinion, especially about board size for certain weight as it's so mixed.

I have actually tried a blast whilst on holiday at el Medano , it was the 115 paired with a 6.5. It did feel great but I had to come in and change kit as the wind started nuking.
On the sales blurb I see they recommend slightly bigger size than you would normally go for, what's your thoughts on that ?

I'm about your weight kitted up. I got rid of my 87ltre isonic (2017) as it was too bouncy in 15cm chop for my weight. I'd hate to use it in big chop.
I use a 111lte with a 7.5m in 12 - 16kts. That's not very user friendly as it's only 64 wide and the sail is big.
As I'm getting older I've started using a 125ltre Tabou Bullit ( beginners version of the rocket) in 5 - 15kts with the 7.5m Turbo.
If the wind is consistent I try and sail my 90ltre ( 57 wide) with 6.5m for 15 - 18kts.
I used to use a 7m Turbo on it for 12 - 18kts and that was great . I stupidly sold my Turbo and I now have a 7.2m Moto which isn't chop friendly.
I don't like being bashed about in chop so tend to hang out the side off the boom.
I use unusual narrow longer boards with suspension for comfort and control.
More standard 90s would probably be wider and easier to gybe .

That's interesting about a sail being chop friendly , is something to do with more/less downward force ?

Hi All , Currently using a 107 69w 2014 Isonic with a 7m cheetah as my light wind big kit (I'm 69kgs) after this I go down to 5.2 fsw wave and much smaller kit.

Im finding the Isonic can be a handful at times in the chop I sail in and at top speeds around 24-26knts I'm not really doing it justice.
Looking at Free ride boards in the hope of easier to use, gybe and less harsh to ride etc.
The Freerides and Freerace seem to carry more volume around the 69cm wide , should I be looking at volume or width to match my 7m or is there anything else to consider?
Couple of boards that have come up a few times as good recommendations on here are the Tabou rockets and Fanatic Blasts.
Thanks

I am 69Kg and I am considering a Goya Carrera 5 107, a freeride with a hint of freerace board.. I am getting old (well, no, I am) and the idea is to use it with a Point-7 6.7 Rush, a sail designed for the low end, as an easy-going light, 12-18, wind. The alternative is a Futura 105, but I suspect that it is still designed to be used seriously overpowered, like the Isonic 67 ... and I cannot really do that any longer!

Sounds like you've worked out the perfect light wind ease of use set up.
i did look at these boards on the goya site , it's hard to know if a freeride or free race board would suit my needs.
I do remember a fire move 112 I had quite a few years ago and it never felt that fast to me.
Ponit 7 sails just look amazing and if I was more into bigger kit it's definitely a brand I would be interested in. I do wonder how my ezzy cheetah compares to other brands for weight and early planning, but that's a whole new topic

I'm similar weight to you. I used to use a Fox 95L with a 5.5 as my light wind setup in 15-18 kts. I still didn't enjoy it, the board feels too big and probably needs a bigger sail which I don't want to use.

I've stopped using it and now a 86L 3S with a 5.0 is my biggest setup. I can get going in 17 kts as long as there are some stronger gusts and the seaweed isn't too bad.

You probably don't want to hear it, but when it's lighter than that, instead of killing my back with heavy gear, I've learnt to wing foil and it's brilliant in light conditions. Easy on the body and you basically need very little wind.

I totally agree with you , however I have winged for around 6 years quite consistently to a good level ,and now I'm kinda board with it unless there's waves or a big swell running.
In the early days of winging I nearly packed up windsurfing altogether.

I guess another thing I'm learning is that my slalom board and 7m really only gives me a couple of knots advantage over my 5.2 and larger fsw that I would say I'm having fun in 15knts on.

Nobody has said it so I will -> your boards are too big for your weight.

You can go freeride or stay slalom - given you description, it wont matter too much for the shape.... what will make a difference is the size.

For context - I am currently 69kg and use a 107L - it is great for really light wind, but it I use a smaller gear as soon as it gets powered-up.

This statement also applies to your 96 Kode - it is too big for you when using a 5.2m

I probably wasn't totally clear on my post , my go to board is a 85L dyno and then I have smaller wave board 75L (3.4 and other sails upto 5.2).
I use the 95L kode if wind is sketchy, running with the tide or it does make a difference if I'm just powered on a 5.2 and 85L that bigger board feels great with a single fin in.

Rockets are definitely nicer in chop.
Having said that, at your weight, you could be on a smaller board.
Would be narrower and easier in chop.
A number of 90+ litre boards could handle a 7m sail.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm really chasing easy light winds and once it picks up enough I'm straight on my 95L kode and 5.2. So I'll stick to a bigger board for ease of use.

Can you find a board that's damaged beyond repair and remove the pads then reuse them. You have to be careful not to tear them when removing.

This is exactly as the sails are designed to be used , however I can't seem to get on with anything below med downhaul (usually set mid to high).
Or using anymore than mid outhaul (unless I'm crazy over powered)

Quite a few of the locals are on ezzys and all seem to put loads of Downhaul on what looks like to be at max. This is in more bump and jump conditions so that probably plays a part in how I like them to feel.
I'm definitely going to experiment more , love the sails but would like to get a better feel with the tuning.

Hi ,from memory I think you can spin the plastic moulding around as the hole is slightly off set to one side.

Unfortunately on these ones, the plastic moulding is actually the base of the inner strap itself so it can't be reversed.

MP

Yes my ones where like this but you can pull the top part from the bottom and spin it around , it just slides over the plastic pins.

I found with my Ezzy sails that just one downhaul setting works 99% of the time. Some of my friends use the full tuning options but I just downhaul until the leech is just twisting and then outhaul 2.5 fingers from boom end.

Hi Matt , do you use the ezzy masts and where does that land on there preset downhaul indicator? thanks

Thanks for the reply's and good to know they work best with med to high downhaul , i only pull the chord and not the clew when setting the outhaul but it still would be way to much outhaul (i think) if set to the chord length.
ill pay more attention over the next few sessions.

Hi all , I bought a new quiver of ezzy waves just under 2 years ago ,I also have the ezzy masts to match.
I've followed the ezzy rigging guides and usually just set to medium d/h and o/h then adjusted either way to suit conditions if required.
I've found using the cord there is what feels like way to much positive o/h so never went fully with this.
I'm now rigging more closer to max d/h and min o/h and finding I like the feel of this but it goes against all the ezzy rigging videos.
just wondered how others are rigging ?
