I broke my leash once on a DW run. Every time a wave lifted the back of the board it foiled itself down the wave and away from me. No way I was ever going to catch it!! I was with a mate who had to chase it down and hold on to it all until I could drag down to him. No way I would go without a leash now. The footstrap attachment is better than no leash.
What type of leash were you using when the board failed?
I have seen a simple dyneema bungee leash rip the whole tail off a board in a high speed crash.
